Been due for an upgrade for about 6 months now, having stayed with a Sprint Galaxy S2 for well above 2 years.

Have heard the complaints for the Fire Phone, and the lack of the Google compatibility despite the fact that Fire OS is based off Android Jelly Bean.

Have also spoke to a few people that have been able to side load a few Google apps, and others that the Amazon Store doesnt have like Snapchat.

But for $200 unlocked, it seems like a good deal. Anyone own one or have some thoughts on it? The year of Prime also appeals to me because I do use Amazon a lot.

I almost bought one just for it being $200 unlocked.

I have had a kindle fire since they launched them and would not have a problem using the phone. But I have never been a big app user, just about every app I have wanted was there. The ones that were not I side loaded.

I do. Can sideload what I can't get from Amazon, specifically my bank app. I like the phone, paid nothing for it with upgrade.

It's probably not a bad buy if you are a Prime user and you don't care about apps that require Google Play Services.

If they would port CyanogenMod to it I might buy it.

Just an update. I got this phone a few weeks ago, and switched from Sprint to AT&T.

Again, I've used a Galaxy S2 for over 2 1/2 years and I've become used to the touchwiz/stock android ecosystem.

The Fire Phone is NOT bad at all. It took about a day or two to get used to the Fire OS, which is based on Android 4.2, and it is not terrible like everyone makes it out to be.

The only two apps I've really missed that weren't on teh Amazon app store were snapchat and Google Drive, and I was able to sideload both after some digging, and both work just fine.

Seriously, at the time, $200 unlocked for this thing? 32 GB of storage? And the hardware specs? This thing is not a bad deal at all.

Amazon is rumored to be giving this an update later this month for Android 4.3, which potentially could allow the BLE functionality on teh Bluetooth hardware, and could improve the performance of this phone even more.

I haven't even rooted this phone, and I'm very happy about it.
