If you want to splurge I have a Tahoe LTZ I'd sell. Less than 15k miles. Great for an expanding family!

Here's another angle to consider -

If I did come up with say $8k or even $10k, should I go for the newer vehicle with less mileage and spend all of the money?

Or should I buy a cheaper one around $5k or $6k and use the leftover cash as savings to pay for potential breakdowns, tires, etc?

You reek of a-hole.

I'm in graduate school on fellowship. Wife is a school teacher.

No, we don't have a lot of money right now. Father-in-law is generous enough to give us a pop-up camper that he no longer uses. Why would I not try to take advantage of it? Especially when I'm going to need a larger vehicle anyway. Not to mention the fact that I have a vehicle sitting in my driveway that I drive maybe twenty miles a week.

dont take the bait. i have several friends who are financially set for life and they are among the biggest deal hunters i know.

its funny when people who dont have money make fun of other people just because they are looking to save money.

i'll take 'projecting for $500 alex'

This. A friend of mine bough a truck exactly like mine, but didn't shop the price or go out of state like I did. He paid $8k more than me for the exact same truck, and thinks I wasted time driving
