Banging on the geese a couple of weeks ago when my BPS stopped firing and only clicking, not engaging the firing pin. So i brought it into Laffy to Acadiana Gun repair (in Scott)...

I waited 2 and a half weeks (he told me 2 weeks and a quote would be called into me). Second split starts Sat so I drop by yesterday to pick up my gun to bring it to someone else who can get right on it.

I walk in an hand my ticket telling the girl I want my gun to bring elsewhere.....she walks back with the gun and laughs and says "it's done already, it only needed a good cleaning inside the trigger mechanism."

Then charge me $75! for a freaking cleaning!!

2 questions...

1 Should I be pissed they didn't call when the figured it wasn't broken and a quote to clean?
2 Why would a cleaning cost $75?

Also, there is a sign at the window that says minimum charge for any gun brought in is $30.

Thoughts?

$30 for anything that walks through the door, $45 to clean it. It's very shitty of the business, and the bitch to laugh at you when they should have called you.

This happens to me all the time. Boat, gun, TV whatever. I have no idea why these people don't want to be paid.

$75 for a few squirts of Gun Scrubber.

Do you also pay someone to sight in your rifles for you?

I think the $30 is there as a minimum...meaning if they spend time diagnosing, etc. I understand that.

SO they take out the mechanism, 2 pins basically, and see theres nothing wrong. I feel like its time to call me and say its fine but needs a cleaning that costs $XXX. I then have the decision to say no thanks and just pay $30 and clean it myself.

I only brought it because I figured I had somehow snapped the firing pin.

I just smiled and paid the bill because Im sure it wasn't her doing, but instructed to do so.

I was ready to pull the trigger and order a new Versi Max from them as I've been looking.

Won't mean much, but I plan on sending the place an email and letting them know I own 15+ guns and now have 3 kids that are beginner hunting age and guns will be bought for all and I was about to pull the trigger on the VM.

I do not sweat pricing too much, I just ask for respectful business practices. He lost a steady customer and I lease with 4 other area hunters who know the story and won't ever show up there.

LOL...I did feel dumb. But mid hunt, firing fine, its a pump and ejecting fine, and the next time I pull the trigger it just softly clicks. No mark on shell....figure firing pin issue. Take it in the guy says "it's not the pin, the problems in the trigger mechanism, it's not engaging the pin (trigger wouldn't move slightly when pumping which indicates it wasn't resetting)"

We agreed I would leave it and he would call with the problem/price. He wasn't there when I picked up yesterday.

My old BPS has ejection issues. I wonder if it's only cleaning?

I had that issue early on and I was told they need to be kept cleaner than most pumps on the ejection issue.

So my was relatively clean, I had just never disassembled and cleaned inside the trigger mechanism. I'm still not convinced it was "dirty"

Seems like a little more than I would expect to pay for someone to clean a gun, but I guess I would have to live with that. What would piss me off, more than anything is not being called about it being ready. That's just piss poor customer service. Unless they finished it that day, there is no reason that you shouldn't have been alerted.

$75 is high for a cleaning on a pump. I know most places charge a minimum. I know Jim's in BR charges $35.
