I think the biggest question is where do we draw the line? This is Caldwell's 4th year. These are her players. She does well when she has had talent (Even at UCLA). She just cannot seem to bring talent here to LSU. This is the major issue. Like I said half the players on the roster shouldn't even be playing for a school like LSU. That being said. This year is only going to get uglier. When we play much more physical and talented teams, we will get embarrassed. We only have one player for this recruiting class that is again... subpar... Things do not look much better here. Why do people expect next year to be so much better? The reality is everyone knows next year will be pretty bad as well. If she isn't bringing a group of talent, why are we going to escalate the situation? I am a Caldwell supporter, but if things continue to be horrible this year. She NEEDS to be fired. You can't wait another year. This will make the issue much more difficult to fix and it will take longer. Idk how someone who took UCLA and turned it into a powerhouse, then came to LSU and is now driving the program into the ground. I care a lot about WBB. I just think the program can keep going. This season is pretty embarrassing, the teams we have lost to are pretty bad. We almost lost to Jackson state. Either Caldwell hires a top notch recruiter and brings in some serious talent, if not she needs to hit the road. She has had plenty of time to bring in her players. Now we have her players. Moncrief seems to be going backwards. Although she literally has to carry the team. I think something needs to happen soon, but the program cannot continue at this rate, its embarrassing

No, but if you actually watched this program over the years. We have actually have gotten worse every year during the season. Yes we played with a lot of heart in the post season but it hasn't exactly gotten better. She does have two sweet sixteen appearances. Question, do you actually think its going to get better? We literally do not have the players. Next year will be bad as well

It's not about that, it's about at least giving her an opportunity to fix it.

We don't really know anything because we aren't there. I mean at one point a couple years ago it looked like we didn't have anything to replace Barrett because Plaisance had done nothing in her career to show she was capable of that.

I've been a fan of this program for going on twenty years now. How many of you all remember the 1994-95 season? The team finished 7-20 in what was the third losing season in a row. The AD was ready to fire coach Gunter but, decided to give her one more season. That next season she went out and recruited a bunch of JC All Americans (Toni Gross, Elaine Powell, Pietra Gay) and proceeded to finish 21-11 and started the uptrend of Lady Tiger basketball........eventually "crescendo-ing" in those consecutive final four appearances a few years later. The point being, although some of you all hate the fact that we're losing and apparently devoid of top level talent, the bottom line is that it is still just ONE losing season. If we fire any coaches based on one season, we'll quickly become a place not many top level coaches will want to take a chance on. Yes, it sucks watching the team in its current state. But, we're going to have to at least give coach Caldwell a chance to turn it around. Firing her this season is complete lunacy.

We had top 100 players on the team. If I'm not mistaken Plaisance was a McDonalds All American. The only good players we have are Moncrief and Harden. Harden is leaving after this year. Everyone else is avg and wildly inconsistent. I really am hoping she turns this around. I am just saying the situation isn't looking good

If the fact she is good looking for justifying her as coach then recruitng men would be better for her. What is concerning is the question if recruiting. If Aleva can't see her lack of progress in that area then he is not the basketball mind that we thought coming from Duke.

What exactly is there to look forward to? She missed out on the tallest and best player in Louisiana, although that player was associated beforehand with an out if state school, but she signed one player during the early signing period. There are many good players in the country, so where is the effort in recruiting?

Why would anyone think he was a basketball mind?

Torn a bit on this one. She has some very strong supporters and some strong non-supporters. She does her self no favors with how she interacts with some admins and other coaches, but has the full support of one key BOS member. Joe and Verge want to win and she will get heat from them, through Miriam, I would think she gets another year unless this year is really bad and she goes into "arrogant" mode. Seen her both ways, thought from day one she would win big here. Hope she can turn it around, the 2000's were fun in WB and helped the LSU brand.

Do you honestly think that coaches should get fired over having children out of wedlock?

Absolutely 100% no, I have never said this, it is her right and I have NO issue with it. I would have preferred we did not have two pregant singlke moms at the same time from a recruting perspective but not a major factor by any means and not a factor in my belief she should be gone at end of this year IF we have a 11-18 type year.

Just dont' agree that the past year was satisfactory overall, 6-8 in SEC, think about that, 6-8...7th place, sweet 16 is a big positive but again they were home games and that "game" of buying home games is now over.

So I give last year a B, the year before a B+ and her first year a B, if this year is F, that is enough for me to have her be gone, especially given no one seems to disgaree that the talent is very low and the there is (as of now) no talent coming in next year.
It's not just the present, it's the outlook...

It was a great hire and I was excited.

You can't blame Alleva though. Sometimes great hires don't work out.

For the money she is getting, the results in four years have been disappointing.

I think this program and this coach should be evaluated thoroughly after this season.

I am not saying fire her, but do you honestly think she is going to bring a few juco all americans in this coming class? The concern is next year doesn't look promising at all. If she has a talented top class, then that's a different story. Her issue falls with recruiting. Her biggest challenge at LSU is her ability to bring in top prospects, for what really I don't know. I like her, I think she has a great mindset for basketball. I am just disappointed that we are going this far downhill, and its because she can't even bring in players here. Personally, I think the deciding factor of her career here depends on her next hire for an assistant coach. She either needs to hire a top notch recruiter. Unless, she can miraculously bring in a top class here then I am afraid her time here wont be that much longer. Even having a staff that doesn't have ties down here, LSU is a big name. Its an attractive name all across the country. I'm astounded that's its this big of a challenge. If you look at the other SEC schools, they are recruiting much better then us.

You're on crazy pills. Great hires ALWAYS work out.....that is what makes/proves them as great. You may have THOUGHT she was a great hire, but her results have proven that she was certainly not a great hire.

A hair-splitting dumbass ... it's a shame you have nothing better to do than nitpick on a message forum.

Get out in the real world occasionally.

It will do you good.

Awww! Did your feewins get hurt?

You said Caldwell was a "great hire." By what measure? The difference between "great" and Caldwell's results is hardly "hair-splitting" or "nitpicking." There is a huge gap there.

At THE TIME, Caldwell was a good hire. She turned a shitty UCLA program around quickly and made them a top ten team quickly. She recruited well there as well. Now, she came to LSU, she has done well, while unfortunate injuries has plagued her teams here. What she has failed miserably here is the recruiting aspect. I don't think she should be fired just yet but does anyone think we will get better? I know we have new faces all over this year but I was expecting better from her in terms of the talent she has brought in

Speaking of someone on crazy pills, tell me what great coach had a better first 3 years at their school than Nikki Caldwell (This year is not in the books). She has averaged 23-11 and NCAA tournament each year, the 2nd round and two Sweet 16s. Pat Summit? Averaged 20 -8. Geno Auriemma? Averaged 13-13. Bet those schools are happy they did not have some of you nut jobs as their AD.
