We feel entitled to our way of life, as our parents have coddled us our entire existence, and we don't want to earn our way

I wish we could send messages to dead people because by the time we are your age, mine would just read, "told ya!" with a nice picture of my arse to go with it.

Well, baby boomers were supposed to start retireing in force 5-6 years ago, opening up many positions for gen x'rs to fill, who would inevitably need to be replaced by millennials. Boomers chose not to retire so those x'rs are still stuck in those same jobs, and the millennials are stuck. They have too much debt from the skyrocketing costs of higher-ed to not start their careers immediately, but that first rung on the career ladder is missing because all of the rungs are currently occupied, waiting for the boomers at the top to retire so everyone can start climbing up again.

So...just have to ask in case I missed it somewhere in the article...

Are college students lumped in with these statistics?

Can't say I recall myself or many of my friends really raking the cash in during college.

If you are smart, motivated, and educated in something society wants, it is nearly impossible for a millennial not to eventually find a solid job.

If you are kind of a slacker frick up or educated in something worthless, the economy sucks for you.

The difference is that, a few decades ago, a lot of those idiots managed to land good jobs too. Think about all of the dumbass friends your dad works with and how they managed to end up in a nice house in the burbs despite having no higher education and generally being a dumbass. Didn't matter. Showed up and got along with others. Gained experience over time and are here to stay.

There are not near as many entry level paths to great careers out there at the moment for those people. I suspect that will drastically change over the next 10 years.

It is just flat out more imperative to have higher education for entry level stuff these days.

It's the age group regardless of college. People went to college back in the day. I admit that I had to ride my horse but I got to class on time.

This raises a good point. If young people today are generally lazy; and that which is rare is valuable; then young people who work hard will become extremely valuable. In a free market economy you will do very well.
