Leaving out of a port in Florida. Doesn't matter which one. Looking for a week long cruise some time in the summer. I've never done a cruise before which is why I have a vague idea of them.

One that doesn't lose power or have a sewer system that backs up.

Nothing says 'happy anniversary!' like staph infection or a stomach virus that lands you in the hospital.

What's your budget? That's the best place to start.

Royal Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean out of Miami or Port Canaveral

If you want "privacy" get a room with a verandah for times you want to get outside, private room service breakfasts, etc., request a private table, book excursions through private companies at the ports not through the cruise itself.

If you don't care about privacy so much on the boat maybe consider a 5 day cruise out of Miami and a little privacy there before you leave with some nicer meals and such.

I've been on several cruises, and never had an issue.

OP, I did one out of Miami that went to St Thomas, Dominican Republic, and Great stirrup Cay. It was on Norwegian. I really enjoyed it.

I'd say $2K to give us some spending money once we dock at the various locations

$2k for two people isn't going to give you much spending money, unless you do a cabin without a window. I highly recommend upping your budget. Any good 7 night cruise is gonna cost at least $700 per person, almost $1k if you do a balcony (recommend this too, especially for an anniversary).

Look at a celebrity eastern Caribbean cruise, use something like cruise compete to get a good price.

We are using our tax return for the cruise. I was thinking $2K just for the cruise alone. The spending money on shore wasn't factored into the $2K

LINK

7 day Eastern Caribbean itenerary on Royal Caribbean leaving out of Port Canaveral as low as $479 per person for an interior room.

For about $2500 you can get a room with a balcony.

If you don't get a balcony, save the cash and get an interior room.

Ah, then that's much more reasonable. You should be fine with that. I'd figure at least another $1000 for booze, excursions, souvenirs etc.

those aren't summer prices. For that cruise in the summer, it'll be $700 for an interior room according to their site.

$479 prices end about April. After that, prices will rise dramatically until the end of August or early September then start to come back down.

You can do NCL for that price, it's a step up from Carnival.

Look at Expedia or some third party wholesalers. Might can get a better deal that way.
