Community had a lot of promise, but I don't think it delivered

I finally got around to watching Community. I think I'm almost done with season 5.
It's a shame it started to get worse because I really did like it for 2 or 3 seasons but then all the characters just became exaggerated versions of their worst character trait.
Britta goes from unattainable, cool activist chick to a clutzy screw up who can't get anything right but will frick anything. Troy becomes just a giant manchild. Shirley is the worst.
Dean Pelton continues to make me laugh throughout, even Chang's crazy stays funny.
Also feel like they had a lot of wasted episodes. I would have been pissed if I waited a week for one of my favorite shows and it was the GI Joe episode.

you say others were over the top but cited chang and pelton as ones who regularly made you laugh?

They were always over the top. I didn't like that characters with actual substance and were useful devolved into caricatures. I feel like we were supposed to be able to relate to the study group. Pelton and Chang were just there for over the top, cheap laughs.

The season that was all Dean all the time was the most unfunny of them all.

I agree, but I think most TV Shows end up doing this.

This. Besides, I really enjoyed season 5. The Nicholas Cage rant by Abed, the arse Crack Bandit, Hot Lava, and GI Jeff were all fantastic.

I don't mean that I didn't like the show. I just think it could have been so much better.
I like the Nic Cage rant. Hot Lava was pretty good. Not a huge fan of GI Jeff.

Troy/Abed make the series, imo.

Shirley is the worst.

How'd you watch it?
I want to give the show a shot but not sure the most convienent way to watch, I don't want to have to torrent that many episodes

The last about 6 episodes of season 3 are the pinnacle of the series, IMO. Others feel differently.
Experiencing all 5 seasons in short order is a completely different experience than having watched them in real time. I think you would have a different feeling about the series if you watched it in real time.
Not every show is like that though. LOST is. Justified isn't.

GI Jeff was hysterical. I also appreciated the arse-Crack Bandit for all of it's stupidity.

I got a two month trial for Hulu plus

It had three incredible seasons, one mediocre season, and one pathetic season.
Once they started laying in thick with the gimmick episodes was when the series started to get cringe-worthy bad.

I have low expectations from them. Just expect not so closeted gay behavior and over the top crazy from Chang and just appreciate them for that. I expect more from the others

I lost interest after season one. I have watched a few from season two and they were ok. If it was on Netflix I would watch it, but I don't like to plug my computer into the TV to watch shows I torrented these days. How did they get 5 seasons? Are they all in grad school now?

as someone who loves this show, that criticism isn't necessarily unfair.

The GI Joe episode was one of the funniest and most clever things I've ever watched on a television. Your opinion on anything else is rendered worthless

Maybe I have Community fatigue. I'll watch the episode again at some point
