Sources: Chris Mullin won't coach Kings this yr. IF he coaches them, it would be at start of next season. Corbin likely 2 remain all season

Marc Jackson in the mix?

quote:

Yet late Tuesday night at Sleep Train Arena, after the Kings fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 104-92, another possible candidate emerged in the most convenient of ways: former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson. After calling the game courtside for ESPN, Jackson had a lengthy meeting with Mullin, Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro and franchise centerpiece DeMarcus Cousins inside the "Chairman's Lounge" where they had requested that arena workers and others give them some privacy.

Jackson, Mullin, and Cousins entered the room at approximately 10:20 p.m. Pacific time, with Cousins sporting a black suit as he continues to recover from his bout with viral meningitis that has kept him out of action since Nov. 26. D'Alessandro joined them approximately 20 minutes into the meeting, and the group finally exited just before midnight, long after the room had been cleared so that they could have a moment to discuss, well, connect the dots yourself.

Or, of course, maybe it was just a couple of old childhood pals sharing stories with their Kings friends. Mullin and Jackson have been the best of friends since their high school days, when Jackson was coming up at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn and Mullin was a star at Power Memorial Academy in New York City. They played together at St. John's University as well, then later spent three seasons side by side yet again with the Indiana Pacers (1997-2000).

What's more, D'Alessandro was a video coordinator at St. John's during Jackson's senior season. Jackson, Mullin, and D'Alessandro have made a habit of visiting in this nature whenever their paths may cross, but the involvement of Cousins was certainly enough to warrant notice.

Very Interesting. Sounds like GK is completely out of the plans now which is good. All the uncertainty surrounds this team is going to have weigh them down. SAC's front office seems like a cluster frick.

How is that good? haha. There is no sign that Monty is in trouble. And further than that, no sign that if he was Karl would be a replacement candidate. And even further than that, no sign that if he was a candidate, he would be the favorite.

Its like a bunch of regular joes being happy when a famous couple breaks up because the women is back on the market.

consider what mike budenholzer (also a spurs asst) is doing in atlanta, vs what monty is doing here

quote:

The above play — the backside handoff — looks downright Spurs-ian, and it may as well be Manu Ginobili taking a handoff from Tim Duncan or Boris Diaw. That’s no coincidence of course, as Budenholzer served as an assistant in the Spurs organization from 1996 to 2013 before taking the Hawks gig last summer. He knows what smart basketball looks like, and he deserves a ton of credit for designing and implementing a new motion offense that evokes San Antonio’s movements and has quickly become one of the few watchable NBA things east of the Mississippi River.

Despite a 17-7 start, it’s too early to tell just how good the Hawks are. However, it’s clear how much the team has improved under Budenholzer — and since Al Horford returned to action. Atlanta is one of the few teams that effectively tailors its offense to emphasize its roster’s unique strengths, and all five starters are averaging double figures. With such a uniquely balanced attack in the cesspool that is the Eastern Conference, who knows? Korver might be scaring defenses all the way into June.

this is from a goldsberry post on grantlred re: kyle korver, but the point he makes above i think is worthy of comparison to the pels

Now sources tell PBT that though the team is still very interested in hiring Karl, they are hesitant to pay an expected asking price in the range of $5 million per year or more.

In the meantime they have allowed themselves to be connected to former Warriors coach Mark Jackson, staging a not-so-secret meeting at Sleep Train Arena following Thursday’s nationally televised game that Jackson called for ESPN.

Sources tell PBT that Jackson has “no chance” of being the Kings’ next coach, adding that the meeting was both personal in nature and mutually beneficial for all parties – sending Karl a message at the negotiating table and for Jackson, keeping his name in the news as a future head coaching candidate.

On the one hand it looks like they don't want to pay his price (would Benson), on the other hand, it looks like they're negotiating.

Sacramento is officially not a long term threat because their owner is a meddlesome moron. I was kind of concerned earlier in the season when Malone had Cousins and Gay playing well.

quote:

Ranadive wanted to make a splash with Malone’s successor, but Kings front office executives prevailed upon him to keep Tyrone Corbin as head coach, according to Bucher. Ranadive would relish the chance to turn the screws on the Warriors, of whom he used to be a part-owner, by hiring Mark Jackson, the ex-Warriors coach, a source tells Bucher, who nonetheless believes that the team won’t hire Jackson during this season.
