It's obvious that JH is Michigan's first choice. What is taking him so long? Is he waiting to see what his fate with SF will be or what other NFL options he has? It's apparent that Michigan is not his first choice.

Miles is obviously waiting on the JH decision before he goes "public" to address the situation. Telling a recruit you are not going anywhere is a little different than holding a press conference to nip the rumor mill in the bud.

I also think UM is covering all their options. I believe Miles has been told he is their second option. If in fact that is the case he will not publicly address the media. If JH is announced as coach Miles will not need to address the media.

The fact that Miles has not gone on record, via a press conference, means he is in fact keeping the option of going to Michigan open.

Isn't he under contract for another year at SF and they plan to try to get some value for that fact by trading him, etc. I suspect he is not his own man at this point but I'm not sure.

This is not about loyalty. It is about negotiating the best deal. It is also about making sure you do what you want to do. If I were him I would want to know what team was the true choice for a trade before I made a decision.

They just got eliminated yesterday. He can't just announce he is going somewhere else in a post game press conference. He has to say and do the politically correct things for two more games, otherwise you get a Petrino blackball.

It's obvious that SF will not fire him since he took them to 3 straight NFC title games. Yes, there is some turmoil with him and the front office and a trade is possible. My point is, if he is not happy in SF, but wants to stay on the NFL why hasn't he told UM no? I think he is using this as a bargaining chip to get a good trade from SF. But with every day that passes it only hurts the UM, which also has a carryover effect on LSU. (Obviously he does not care about that)

I was thinking the same thing. San Francisco knows they have a hot commodity who is also still under contract. If they fire him then they let him go wherever he wants w/o getting anything in return. If he quits, they still hold his rights for another year. And I don't think either side will give in to the other at this point.

SF cant trade him without his consent. What more leverage would be need?

I guess it really depends on whether or not he has a "no trade" clause in his contract. Does anyone know the answer to that question?

It is rumored that JH turned down the trade offer from Cleveland.

SF wants to use Harbaugh as trade bait to score cash and draft picks.

Harbaugh can veto trades and become a free agent after SF terms Him. Then He uses UM as a negotiating tool and in the end Harbaugh wins with a new NFL gig with Player Personnel control, and a boat load of cash.

UM is used and burned...no Harbaugh, and depending how long they wait, possibly no Miles and ending up with Brady Jr.

Mora Jr is a poor mans Harbaugh but he is there, as is Dan, Les, and a dozen other coaches. They have to give Harbaugh until the end of the season in order for him to talk with other NFL teams. Right now Michigan and Harbaugh can talk because Michigan isn't bound by the no tapering clause like the other NFL teams.

NFL doesn't blackball winners. The line would be long if Harbaugh chose to return to the NFL.

How many coaches have you ever seen go on the record bout a job offer that no source has reported as taking place? I mean, how arrogant would a coach have to be to do that?

Harbaugh will do that is best for him and his family. As will Miles and has every other coach.

The rest of us just have to hold our water.

Harbaugh is staying in the NFL and teams will fire coaches if they think they can land him. I think he stays in the bay area and his wife is happy. JH is a great coach, not good but great, if a coach is successful at the NFL level and is wanted they stay at the highest level of coaching. I am a Saturday guy but if you can coach on Sundays than you coach on Sundays.
