Has anyone talked about Kevin spacey and his accent changing all the time.. Sometimes he sounds like he is from rural Georgia, other times he sounds like he doesn't even live in the south.. It's throwing me off

He speaks more "Southern" when doing so would benefit his character (like when he's home in his district or playing up his Southern roots. He drops it when he's being more serious or talking to people who may be less swayed when he uses his drawl. It's gauged politically to the situation (think Hillary with her "Aw ain't in no ways tired"). I do the same in my life. I play up the accent more around my friends or when I want someone to underestimate me. I tone it down around Yankees and in professional settings.

I don't know if he is only doing it differently when he is in DC and back home. If so that is normal.

My mother is from Shreveport and it is hilarious to hear her when we are in Shreveport. Completely different accent than when in New Orleans.

Don't know if they went that far and showed how shifty he is as a politician, but they might have. As someone else stated, Hillary has been known to put on a fake accent on the campaign trail.

The changing accents are intentional- he adopts different speech patterns depending on who he is talking to. It's pretty common with real politicians too.

You'll change your mind when you get to the episode when terrorists take over the Capitol and our most important members of government are being held at gunpoint...

...but the terrorists forgot to check the bathroom and missed the only chance anyone has...Francis Underwoood.

Oh, almost forgot. SPOILERS!

Can't watch the series because I can't get past the phony accent.

As people have said in this thread, if you view it as another thing that he manipulates on purpose to paint an "image" of himself it's not that difficult to get over. You can tell he is heavy on the accent when speaking to fellow politicians but not as much when speaking to the camera. Or you can just not watch it.

It's Aside Glance: The Series.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. Mainly cuz Spacey is the man.
