So for those watching the Cowboys-Eagles game, you know the situation. For those who don't there was a long pass where the player was tackled at the one and then fumbled. It was bang bang and Dallas challenged to see if he fumbled before he was down (they recovered it).

My question is, if Dallas challenges to see if he was down, is that all they can review? If the refs look at it and see that the runner wasn't down and actually crossed the goal line before being down, could they rule it a touchdown even though Dallas challenged it?

It has to be specifically what is challenged.

Yeah you have to be specific on what you are challenging, but I heard the other day that once a play is being reviewed they look at everything. I don't know if that only applies to reviews initiated by the refs
