What a difference a few games make. It's odd because we get blown out without him tonight. He played controlled and actually left the dumb decisions to Holiday. I think it was due to one thing. Ryno vs AD. By no means is this a bash AD thread. Let's get that out of the way. But the difference in floor spacing when a big is flashing to the 3 pt line vs AD slashing to the rim off the pick and roll appears to be huge when talking about Evans. This is Tyreke's bread and butter along with ISO ball. Same difference though. AD hangs out closer to the rim than Anderson when paired with Asik. The balance in the Holiday, Evans, Babbitt, Anderson, Asik lineup just makes more sense.

A few games ago most the board (myself included in my Stephenson/Evans idea) was ready to pack Evans bag on the same train as Monty's. Tonight shows what a commodity he CAN be though with Davis out. Our team without him would literally be in "oh frick" mode, even with a shooter in his place like Gerald Green.

So what's the solution? Reasonably I see 2 courses of action. Bring Evans off the bench with Ryno and start (ugh..) Fredette or Rivers (ugh but less ugh). Trade Evans while his value is high with AD out and him racking up quality games. Show the league he works, he just needs shooters to excel.

One game? Yes I know but it's a message board.

Start Reke, but have him play with mostly the second unit. He looks more desirable to other teams and it won't hurt his ego if he keeps starting, but he would best help the team and himself if he played more of his minutes when the bench comes in. No ones knocking down the door for him right now anyway, so might as well give him a chance to really help the team

This is a great idea in theory without a mental midget for a coach that insists starters play with starters and bench plays with bench.

from what I've seen tonight, start reke and ryno and have AD come off the bench and run the 2nd unit

I've said it a few nights ago. When Tyreke plays like this, we're hard to beat. 2nd most important player on our team. He's the tone setter. Total mismatch.

everyone overreacts when he has a few bad games...just like last season...and forget what he did the whole second half of last season.

...everyone acting like he's some ridiculously inefficient player when he's career 44 FG% and 17 PER

My bad bro. I guess we should just shut down the board until Sunday. People take discussion way too seriously.

I would like to see this group of players with a good coach before any roster changes are made. Monty actually coached a good game tonight but we all know that these are rare occurrences. AD has one flaw in his game still and that is he sometimes gets stationary and stops moving around (could be a coaching thing, IDK). The ball movement was so much better tonight than usual, as was the off the ball movement.

The few minutes AD played tonight were really good and I think even if he never got hurt they were going to win the game.

Tyreke looked good for the same reason Asik's dunks looked good, no legit rim protector to increase the difficulty of the shots he would take. I do like the 10 assists though. If he can become a pass first guy then he'd stop taking so many stupid shots when there is a rim protector. He should be able to put up good stats leading up to the trade deadline with the lighter schedule in January. High assist numbers are probably the only thing that should make you think twice about trading him.

but in a game like last nite Tyreke was clearly the alpha dog, and that's OK with me. the offense ran thru Tyreke for long stretches and he made it work

until they find a real scoring wing I think you have to keep him

I don't think that's fair ATL. Tyreke hit some tough shots at the rim last night. I think he just looks more competent and less boneheaded when he has room. I'm not talking about converting layups. I'm referring to those "tyreke wtf nooooooo" moments we've all grown accustomed to. Frankly, they weren't there last night. There just seems to be a disconnect between AD, coach, and Evans. I'm pretty firmly in the don't blow up this roster without trying a real coach crowd. I'm just referring to what we have now. What do we do moving forward if Monty is our coach?

And I'm saying that if Cleveland had a rim protector Tyreke would have say 18 shots instead of 24 and there would have been 4 more WTF nooooo moments in fewer shots. I will say that if Tyreke is looking to pass first he has an outlet when the paint is crowded rather than hoisting up a stupid shot. His assist rate is as important to me as his finish rate as far as his future on the team goes.

Hope that time and habit are enough to change some guys for the better. Did you see the Win Share thread I made on year 3 AD? Byron wasn't a great coach and CP3 in year 3 got the 2 seed in just as stacked of a western conference because he had 3 guys playing at a high level next to him. If Ryno and Reke get it together and play like last night more often, AD will have 4 guys playing at a high level next to him.

If we make the playoffs this year then the only hope of getting a new coach will probably require getting embarrassed in the 1st round 2 years in a row and Monty not getting a new contract.

It would be interesting to see Monty stagger his minutes differently when EG comes back. Have him come out after 5 minutes. Put him back in running the backups.

And man, if this team had more legit floor spacers on the wing...

that's what scares me. I'm torn on what I want to see happen. I believe a team needs 1-2 seasons of playing together to fully gel. I'd rather keep this core 5 together and continue to add depth when possible. Of course, the downside to that is this core could end up just not being talented enough and were looking at blowing things up far too deep into AD's career.
