So I just finished reading Shogun. Absolutely loved it. So I'm now wondering if I should bother with the movie, or try to find the mini-series from 80's? Or should I do neither? Anyone ever watched these before? Are they good? And I mean are they fair and accurate based the source material?

At the time, the mini-series was awesome but it will be very dated for you to watch now. It was nowhere as good as the book but I loved it when it hit the airwaves.

I watched it again recently and TigerMyth has it right. Didn't age that well.

But it was the shite when it was on TV in the 70s.

I watched the mini-series again last year and still enjoyed it. I never watched the movie.

Mini series is awesome. I just watched recently after not having seen it since I was a boy.

Are you going to keep up with the book series? Shogun was the best, Gai-Jin (the 3rd in the series) is 2nd best for me. I stopped at King Rat because it started getting into too modern of an era although the book itself was good.

I would go Shogun>Noble House>TaiPan>King Rat> Gai-Jin for me. I didn't really care for Gaijin all that much, I thought it was just okay. The other 4 are excellent though.

Maybe I should read noble house

Shogun was one of my favorite books ever. Maybe #1. Enjoyed King Rat also, read it before Shogun.

I had no immediate plans to do so, but I may have to reconsider.
