How do you feel about the Varsity charging for water?

Bought mixed drinks a few weeks ago at $8 per and asked for a water. The bartender pulled a bottled water and said $2 and said they don't give out free water. It's only $2, but it's the principle of the matter and to me, shitty business. They've overcharged me many times on my card as well.

What's your opinion?

How much do they charge for water at other concert venues? Please tell me where you can get free water at any show with paid admission.

I'm not sure I've ever ordered $30 drinks in one order and been asked to pay for a bottle of water. I go to shows all the time and honestly can't remember.

House of Blues sure doesn't

I think it's shitty for them to charge for tap water. People need designated drivers. Those designated drivers should get free non-alcoholic beverages, imo.

However, I'm not familiar with the Varsity. Is it a club/venue, or is it just a pure music venue/auditorium? I think that makes some difference. That being said, they can do what they want.

Bottle of water? Expensive.

Small cup of water? Should be free.

They don't charge for water in the Chimes, so if you're that cheap, just walk the extra 30 ft to the bar at The Chimes and drink you some (I have done this many times )

FTR if I only get tap water I usually tip $1 every 2 drinks or so. Quit being such a cheap mofo.

I think Tipitina's gives free tap water at their shows...I'm not sure though, because I'm an alcoholic. Someone confirm or deny this

Also I think it is funny when the venue adjusts the water price for specific shows i.e. jacking it up for EDM

I'm like 95% sure I've gotten cups of water at the Varsity bar for free

Must be a new policy

They, literally, just fill Gott coolers full of water with plastic cups next to them everywhere at EDM shows around here. That way those people aren't bothering the bartenders and standing in line for water.

I'm like others, though. If I'm drinking water instead of booze (not often), I tip the bartenders every couple of glasses of water.

It is often up to the discretion of the bartender. OP was probably being a douche and as such got surcharged for it.

It's tacky. I could see charging for bottled, but there should be a free option of ice in a plastic cup.

Pretty much every show I go to. A lot of places have water coolers set up w/ cups so you can get it yourself and not bother the bartender.
