Rumors have it that Phil Montgomery, the Baylor OC, will be named the new head coach at Tulsa.

Source tells me #TulsaFB now may be zeroing in on & negotiating w one candidate: Baylor OC Philip Montgomery. Working to confirm.

Briles and Montgomery have been together since Briles was the head coach at Stephenville HS so it is a little surprising that Montgomery is leaving. Montgomery has also previously said that he wasn't interested in being a head coach, albeit that was a few years back and he meant in that time.

Regardless, I am happy for Montgomery as he certainly deserves a head coaching chance. I wish him nothing but the best. That is a second head coach that Briles can claim from his head coach tree (the other being Dino Babers at Bowling Green). He has been great for Baylor, for those that aren't aware he is the one that calls the offensive plays for the game, not Briles.

The next question is who replaces Montgomery for Baylor. Our offensive line coach, Randy Clements was our "running game coordinator" or does it go to Kendal Briles (Art Briles son).

Hoping it goes to Kendal Briles and we groom him to be our next HC as Briles is starting to get older.

TL;DR - Phil Montgomery, Baylor OC, leaving for Tulsa HC position.

Would be a good hire IMO.

Much better than Rhett Lashlee and worlds better than Houston Nutt.

definitely seems like a good hire. I was wondering if Montgomery was waiting around for the Baylor gig but afaik he has no prior ties to Baylor. Definitely one of the brighter offensive minds no one knows about.

Good hire. May not last long there if successful with the demand for young, offensive-minded coaches.

Pretty comfortable in saying that there has never been a college head coach named "Kendal" - seriously who is naming some of these boys these days, some family names were meant to be just that --> family names...

I agree, CFP needs to have stricter requirements.

I'm still pissed about the CFP sending Lane Kiffin and considering Gary Paterson for a while as well as CFP teams...do these arse clowns know these guys wear VISORS?!?!?

We're talking about the CFP and we're sending some VISOR wearing mother frickers...un-fricking-beleivable.

Say what you want about FSU on the field this season Jimbo Fisher knows how to wear a hat. He comes from a coaching tree of notable Hat Wearers. Mainly Les Miles which I beleive has heavily influenced his hat playbook. Totally deserves a spot in the CFP.

While everyone lauds Hayden Fry for his coaching tree, he doesn't get the flak he deserves for undeniably being the influencing factor for all the Aiden, Hayden, Kayden bullshite names out there.

Nice hire. If he succeeds there, would not be surprised to see him coaching in the SEC in a few years.

Appears to be official now.

If Montgomery is successful at Tulsa, he might not be there long.
