NBA all star game: captains pick teams/players assigned by votes?

Van Gundy was just talking about the West having so many good guards and jokingly said "send some to the East" for the all star game.
What would you think if they had two captains that just picked players from the entire pool of eligible all star players?
Or what if players just alternated teams based on the amount of votes they got? Top vote getter goes to team A, second best to team B, next best to team A, and so on.
I think either would be pretty cool.

Kind of defeats the purpose off the all star game if you aren't going to be east vs west.

The All-Star game is meant to reward the best players in the game. It's not the Conference All-Star game. It's the NBA All-Star game. The best players should be there.

I would be all for having captains pick teams. Didn't NFL do this with the pro bowl this year?
I never watch all star games, but this would make more sense to me considering how loaded the west is and how bad the east is.

Good luck explaining that to the NFL pro bowl who puts NFC vs AFC.
MLB All star game which puts AL vs. NL
and every other major sport.
You can't just change the rules in one major sport.

Man all I'm saying is you can't just change things. All american sports use this and it's just how it is. Changing it would be "going against the grain" and wouldn't go over well
