Cost 40+ Million to develop but...

quote:

With each shot costing under a dollar, compared to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile, of which they are often fired in pairs, just the economics alone of solid-state defensive laser systems are outstanding. Pair that with the reality that the laser never runs out of ammo and can engage targets at the speed of light and what you get is the future of defensive, and eventually offensive precision light-attack systems.

No tracing laserbeam or even a 'pew pew' sound for the 40mil?

Is the point of this "weapon" to burn bad guys' cornea similar to the laser-pointer from HS?

How long until we can attach these things to sharks?

That's when things get really interesting.

We already had them on dolphins but they escaped when Katrina hit.

How often has the Navy had to deploy a defensive weapon in the gulf? Not knocking this as it is pretty badass. But they need to get this on a C130 gunship for the next invasion.

Transmits the vast amount of energy stored in the laser beam to the target. Its still only powerful enough to stop light aircraft and small drones. An F22 would just say lawlz and blow you up.
