Are there any standards anymore when it comes to music and pop culture?

I'm talking about the promotion of crappy culture from mainstream outlets like NBC, CBS, etc.

Just recently on the Tonight Show, a female rapper named DeJ Loaf performed her song "Try Me". It's a violent and profane rap song.

Why would a mainstream show on NBC promote a song like that? Here are he lyrics:

[Chorus x2:]
Let a n***a try me, try me
I'm a get his whole mothafrickin' family
And I ain't playin with nobody
frick around and I'm a catch a body

[Verse 1:]
Bitch I got the mac or the 40
Turn a bitch to some macaroni
Tell me how you want it I'm on it
I really mean it I'm just not recordin'
Still a blow the choppa, for all you oppa's
Leave a bitch n***a head in pasta
You are an impostor, ain't got no money
Put the burner to his tummy, and make it bubbly
I really hate n***as I'm a Nazi
Love wearin' all black, you should see my closet
Rock that all white, when I'm feelin' Godly
Pop out like Coke, I ain't gotta park it
frick is y'all saying, bitch my hood love me
48214 real n***as know me
I been out my mind since they killed my cousin
Free my cousin Devin, man he just called me
All these n***as love me, can't get 'em off me
frick around gave him my number, he won't stop callin'
IBGM the clique bitch you see us scorin'
V.I.P in the plural, while yo section borin'
Got a bitch that Set it Off like Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah
You rollin' around with yo nieces bitch TeeTee
Mind full money, got a heart full of demons
Mobbin' like Italians, we really take yo fingas
Turn yo face into a pizza, no acne
Have you singin' like Alicia, frick with my family
They be like you little, but got damn she spazzin'
Do the whole crew, my bitches freak nasty

[Chorus x2:]
Let a n***a try me, try me
I'm a get his whole mothafrickin' family
And I ain't playin with nobody
frick around and I'm a catch a body

[Verse 2:]
Bitch I got the Tommy no Hilfiger
Lil Dej ain't bout it, bitch how you figure
I don't do no drugs, I be off liquor
So lifted, flyer than yo girl, baby gone and take my picture
See I gotta get this money, my palms itchin'
N***as gossip like hoes, most of 'em bitches
I don't wanna do no songs, I don't wanna kick it
And I ain't signin' to no label, bitch I'm independent

[Chorus:]
Let a n***a try me, try me
I'm a get his whole mothafrickin' family
And I ain't playin with nobody
frick around and I'm a catch a body

When people stopped needing talent to be "musicians" or a "celebrity" - then standards disappeared - almost overnight.

Just the way things are. Look at how terrible movies are.

Song sucks, but hook is mildly catchy.

But I'm talking about the promotion by mainstream outlets.

I mean, why would Jimmy Fallon want that crap on his show?

I admit that I like the song. I like rap music.

I'm just wondering when lyrics like that became acceptable and mainstream to where middle aged white people think it's great and sing along.

They get paid to put people who are selling something on - surely you knew that brah? That's why 1/3 of the people on there are selling music, 1/3 selling a book, and 1/3 selling a film or television show.

That's the business model. The host is just the bait for the audience.

Middle aged whited people probably can't even follow along with the lyrics. Hell, my black parents can't understand the lyrics at all

You guys a bunch of old women or what? Quick question for the OP (and you Ace). Why do you care about the shitty music that other people want to buy? Good music is still being turned out. Good movies are still being made. Even if the production of everything good or decent stopped today, there's probably enough out there to keep the average person entertained for decades.

Blacks and Whites of any age can't follow the lyrics of Louis Louis by the Kingsmen. But it's on my ipod.

I can recognize... "Oh Baby" and "We gotta go" and "Watch it now". Not sure what the central theme is but I love it.

Louis Louis by the Kingsmen

Song was recorded after lead singer visited the dentist and was still experiencing the numbing effects from the injection.

sang into a single microphone hanging from the ceiling.

Instant classic

I don't care what music people buy.

I find it strange that songs like that are pushed by a mainstream talk show on NBC.

I figured there are lyrics, but I always thought the charm of the song was that you could sing anything you wanted and nobody would call you out.

It's not like they know what they are.

In all seriousness, you do know the audience, both live and watching on TV, don't have a printed copy of the lyrics during the performance, right? Most people either change channels or just nod along to the beat.

Even assuming that's true, it's beside the point.

Well obviously you and millions of other morons in America like this song. Did you think your taste was separate from the masses'?

Song absolutely sucks by the way. How does it not rot the listener's brain?

And no- I'm not a tight assed curmudgeon that is behind the times or can't relate to today's music/culture, etc.
