The Supreme Court upheld the right of employers to detain their workers without pay to make sure they aren't stealing.

Even Forbes Magazine, a conservative business publication, thinks this ruling was wrong.

Yet, the ruling was unanimous.

I find this ruling incredibly unfair. Only eggheads who have not worked a real job in decades could decide that a worker's time is not worth money.

It reminds me of slavery.

How pissed would you be, if your employer forced you to clock out, then made you stand in line for 25 minutes to walk through an x-ray machine to make sure you aren't stealing?

It's also an insult for them to assume their workers are stealing.

Already discussed.

Another reason we should be happy Obamacare got rid of "job lock."

As I said in another thread, why should an employee get paid for the time it takes to go through a security check necessitated because of employee bad behavior?

Do you believe that employees should be compensated for the time it takes to park and walk to their work area? Because that's about the average amount of time it took to get through security screenings.

This would have been an interesting discussion until you showed up with your completely unnecessary vitriol. To make your point, did you really need to call two Supreme Court justices "c*nts?"

ETA: Why did you ever give up the old Newbomb Turk alias? Too many people caught on to your ignorance?

You're attempting a divisive argument based on an apparently ambiguous term, "working class". Could you define "working class" as you intended it here?

FYI, I am under the impression ALL employees must participate in the security screening. Hence the question.

BTW, "off the clock requirements" are total BS IMO. But so is the "working class" meme.

Does the employer get compensated for conducting the searches? You should agree with this ruling.

Since I know I have skills that are in demand by many employers (unlike you), I would just go work somewhere else if my employer's policy upset me.

Why don't you get a job in the real world?

Yes.
In essence gaining off-the-clock status to increase profits is the equivalent of compensation.

So, what about all the other people who don't have your skill set? You have to know that rank and file must exist at every corporate entity.

According to your link the employees at Amazon are not union employees, thus they don't have much bargaining power as a group. These are hourly wage employees it seems. If these were salaried employees we wouldn't be hearing a peep about the extra few minutes required to check out.

So, for you anti-union folks who think these employees should be getting compensated, this is one good case of why you now see why unions get formed.

From the looks of it, it's rather evident that Amazon doesn't want a union and the employees don't want a guaranteed salary type payments. To sum up, you got to do what you're told if you want t keep your job.

Some people just can't go work somewhere else, you dolt. There are real job costs associated with changes in employment, especially for those who have families and work in a minimum wage capacity.

Maybe they could just make their workers work naked like Wesley Snipes did in the crack house in New Jack City.

let me get one thing clear....i don't like pretty much everything you stand for

that said:

I kind of agree with you (and Forbes). But the fact is this is just another example of the few f-ing it up for the many (it's the same reason that we struggle with the whole muslim vs extremist thing and where to draw the line).
