Tyreke had his best game of the season.

He just played smart and wasn't reckless.

Yep, on the ride home, my friend said Tyreke had "a quiet 27." He only took one or two ill-advised shots, which really helped his efficiency. I can only think of one time when he kind of shrugged off the offense mid-shot clock for some forced ISO and it worked. It's clear that he can be good in ISO, he just needs to stop going back to the well so often.

That is coaching.

ETA: Or lack thereof.

And that's where I don't know what to make of this team long term. I'm tired of giving Monty excuses and passes, but there are a lot of problems that may only be fixed with time. If multiple years in a system that expects Tyreke to pass turns him into the player we see when he's at his best, then we'd be fools to dump him.

Yes and no. His only option is to yank him, but Monty was apparently undermined when he tried to do that and break the horse last season. I mean, I guess Monty could conspire with the other players on the court and tell them not to pass it to Evans, but I don't see that working out very well.

Some players are just not conducive to coaching (that's you, JR).

Too bad Evans can't play like that consistently

I actually came here to type this.

Tyreke has such a unique skill set. We need a coach that can provide better spacing and instill in him the idea that he could easily be a 14/11 guy instead of an 18/5 guy. The raw tools are all there. He just hasn't had a coach capable of molding him.

tyreke was confusing me last night. I was telling people during the game that don't watch the pels that often that tyreke was a ballhog who never looks to pass and he kept making me look dumb

His only option is not to yank him. He has this other, wonderful, beautiful option available to him called coaching/teaching.

I don't even blame you for missing it, cause we haven't seen coaching in over 4 years now.

You can coach a guy all day. However, if he ignores it, waves off the offense, and goes rec league, that's on him, not the coach.

He pisses off AD fairly regularly when he does it. I'm not sure how Boogie didn't lose his shite.

Some guys just are what they are. Not sure how many coaches you can blame for Tyreke's poor basketball IQ.

He's a fairly decent passer so you don't have to teach him how to pass, you just need to set things up so passing is a more natural thing to do for him. Part of that might simply be calling more plays. No you may never break him of the 1 on 8 fast breaks, but you can make sure he's thinking pass first in a half court Tyreke Kamikaze.
