Do you go with a mid level paying job with all the benefits?

Better what?

Edit:
Depends on how much you need money in your pocket I guess.

Little job security from current other company is world wide but lacks the perks of working for a small family owned company

Perks being fully paid health benefits for me and my wife and paying me for vacation days that I don't have

Just be aware that upper management will loot your pension plan with a quickness if they need to hit their financial targets to keep their bonuses.

The one that gives me more time with my family is what I would pick. How the hell do I know where I'll be in 10 years, so I'm investing primarily in living life right now. I mean, is there a reason why you can't open an Ira and plan your retirement yourself?

Company match is what I'd look at when figuring total compensation package

the question is, at which job would you be more likely to build a better life in the future...

basically, what is the comparison in retirements?...which has health benefits that would serve you better later on when you really need them?...does either have retiree medical insurance at a reasonable cost (because that is what lets you retire early)?.....would one let you get a house that you will keep for most of your life?...

basically, you have to try to quantify all of that so you can weigh the options...

The companies I contract through right now offer no benefits. I'm a 1099 contract worker. No health insurance, no retirement, no PTO. They don't even take taxes out. But, I get paid much more than when I was an employee even after taking into account the benefits. I now have more time with family. Life is good. I have my own IRA set up (an SEP-IRA) and I get private health insurance. I pay taxes quarterly. frick taxes.

Do what's best for you and your family.
