Best way to sharpen machetes?

I was given a couple Columbian machetes that have no edge. What is the best tool to create an edge and sharpen them? Preferably under $60 if possible.

Grinding wheel and a clamp

A round file will work but be a bit time consuming. Other than that you could run a stone down it.

Where do I get one of those? Searched grinding wheel on Google and didn't pull up what I was looking for

If you dont have a 4" grinder go to the Pawn shop and get one and put this flapper disk on it. Disk are about $6-8 a piece at a welding supply store. After you done sharpening your machetes you can use it for a multitude of other things.

Don't use a bench grinder. You'll burn the temper out of the blade in spots along the edge. Get a puck-style sharpening stone from BassPro or Amazon or a hand file. Best tool is a WorkSharp though.

Probably doesn't need to be said but wear gloves if using a file

HJ Smith and Sons said they'd do it for $3. I'll likely go that route

I sit on an old chair watching the fire with a puddle of spit beside me filing my machete. Watching. Filing. Watching. Filing.....Waiting

Clamp and a standard file has always worked for me. Wear gloves and pay attention.
