Questions The Result of the Midterms

First, to those who think I'm some sort of flaming liberal who pretends to be otherwise, you can kiss my arse. I am serious about posters' opinions on the following questions.
Will Congress actually try to "repeal Obamacare"? If so, how? Blanket legislation? Will Obamacare still be in effect in, say, 2017?
Will Congress end up passing an immigration bill that will include a "pathway to citizenship" or what some people will call "amnesty"?

frick a new "pathway to citizenship". We already have one.

I hope they just start de-funding as much as they can.
Then form some well-reasoned legislation to address both problems. - Hopefully one issue at a time e.g. immigration? = start with a rigorous border security bill. Once that is accomplished and proven to be effective, then begin discussion of what to do with the millions of illegals already here.
Health care? I would love to see a total repeal, but that is impossible with current POTUS and senate numbers. So - defund as much as can. neuter it. Then work for a GOP POTUS in 16 and start from scratch.

Thing is, some parts of the ACA are pretty popular. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I sort of think not much will happen, but who knows?

No and No.
That's probably the smart money bet.

Maybe

No clue. I'm not even sure the GOP can agree among themselves. We could end up with competing plans from different factions, in which case the Democrats are effectively in control of the issue. Hard to say what they'll do--they may line up behind one of the GOP proposals, or they might let it burn and try to blame the Republicans for the meltdown.

Very likely. Obama will veto a repeal for sure. And he might veto any major overhaul because signing such a bill would be an admission that his administration's signature legislation is a failure.

Possible. Moderate Republicans might sign off on some form of amnesty and join the Democrats to get it passed. Probably depends on whether other provisions in the bill make it palatable to the more conservative factions.

All of this depends on what the SCOTUS does next June. We'll have a clearer picture of what to do then. They could uphold the subsidies or pretty much gut ObamaCare and unravel the law entirely.

I fricking hope not. The laws we have are fine, they're just not being enorced.,

No and no.
Congress isn't gonna do shite. Business as usual. Doesn't matter which party is in control. They aren't that different at theend of the day and are there to further their own ends.

With McConnell and Boehner in charge, nothing substantial will ever happen.

quote:Why should they? "Pathway to citizenship" has nothing whatsoever to do with needed immigration reform. We have "pathways to citizenship" currently.

Obamacare is the mistress the repubs had to marry. They came up with it and they are going to keep it.
They won't do anything on immigration.

No on the ACA.
By the way, it was health insurance reform, not healthcare reform.
No way will they pass a pathway to citizenship. They might make a temporary worker status but, nothing more.
Obama and the democrats have idea how screwed they are politically for the remainder of Obama's term.

Such as? Free contraception for the ladies? What woman wouldn't find that popular? It's free....err subsidized by their male and female counterparts.

No pre-existing condition discrimination.
Republicans won't be able to repeal it as any kid with leukemia or an adult with heart disease can won't be able to buy insurance like they can under the aca. Too many conservatives get sick and have sick kids.
They won't touch that.
The part about having no upper limit before an insurance company can drop you- tell me which repubs is going to stand up to the cost of a premature baby and say that it's the best thing for the insurance to drop them.
and the point is republicans support the aca. They haven't even tried to seriously repeal it. It's just noise.

Yep.
Pre-existing conditions covered.
Children remaining on parents' policy until 26.
Wanna bet on the poll results for either of those two?
