I hope UVA and/or Frats sue the shite out of Rolling Stone if it all turns out to be a lie.

Soon after the 9,000-word story ran, media critics began to question Erdely's reportorial methods. According to Rolling Stone, she spent months talking to Jackie, her friends and university officials. But Erdely never spoke to the accused, "Drew" and other men at Phi Kappa Psi. Erdely didn't contact the men for comments due to an agreement with Jackie, Dana said. "Because of the sensitive nature of Jackie's story, we decided to honor her request not to contact the man she claimed orchestrated the attack on her nor any of the men she claimed participated in the attack for fear of retaliation against her," he wrote.

Several key aspects of the account of a gang rape offered by a University of Virginia student in Rolling Stone magazine have been cast into doubt, including the date of the alleged attack and details about the alleged attacker, according to interviews and a statement from the magazine backing away from the article.
The U-Va. fraternity chapter where the alleged attack took place in September 2012 released a statement Friday afternoon denying that such an assault took place in its house. Phi Kappa Psi said that it has been working with police to determine whether the account of a brutal rape at a party there was true. The fraternity members say that several important elements of the allegations were false.
A group of Jackie’s close friends, who are sex assault awareness advocates at U-Va., said they believe something traumatic happened to Jackie but also have come to doubt her account. They said details have changed over time, and they have not been able to verify key points of the story in recent days. A name of an alleged attacker that Jackie provided to them for the first time this week, for example, turned out to be similar to the name of a student who belongs to a different fraternity, and no one by that name has been a member of Phi Kappa Psi.

This is a cluster-f**k of epic proportions. It may well be that there was a gang rape warranting an investigation at UVa. But printing this story without the appropriate level of skepticism and scrutiny casts doubt on these allegations and resulted in the kind of overreaction by university officials that one would expect in the current campus climate. Rolling Stone was irresponsible in its reporting, and its apology is fully warranted.

Is "reportorial" a word?

Yeah, but their defense will be "what do you want from us? We are Rolling Stone, everyone should know our stuff is shite."

Let me see if I get this.........a woman claims she was gang raped at a UVA fraternity house, but no charges have been filed by her. Instead she chooses to talk to a reporter and give her all of the details of the "rape". In return the reporter does not interview the accused, so there is no way their side of the story can be told.
End result....all fraternities are suspended without even an investigation....only the word of one unidentified college female student.
Sounds like all the Duke Lacrosse players go to UVA now.

sounds like the new meta for the prog-left is to accuse anyone they don't like, then worry about things like facts after the flames die down.

The entire time I read that article I thought: "man this is one sided and hyperbolic as hell". Especially the conversations with her friends about the rape and their total lack of caring. I went to college with some heartless SOBs and they wouldn't have said the things that was said to her supposedly. I just couldn't believe any of it.
I am not saying she wasn't raped but that article really didn't make me think it was 100% true.

Meanwhile, all the progressive idiots who think questioning dubious allegations is akin to rape or murder silently back into the mist, not to be heard from until the next persecution arrives.

I agree with this statement.
The problem now is too many assholes on this board and elsewhere will use this journalistic malfeasance to assure us no women are ever raped at fraternities.

It's a good bet that "victim" only exists in the mind of the article's author.

Come on. It doesn't matter whether the story is true or not. Truth isn't important here, only emotion...and rape culture.

What a total cluster. RS is such a shite-show
