Is he regretting anything, or just clearing up his name so he can open another restaurant?

quote:

Actor Mark Wahlberg has filed a petition with the Massachusetts governor’s office seeking a pardon for criminal convictions stemming from his brutal 1988 assault of an immigrant he referred to as a “Vietnam fricking shite.”

MW Seeks Pardon for Racial Assaults

quote:

Wahlberg, 43, also reports that his criminal convictions “still legally impact me to this day,” noting that his prior record could be used to deny him a concessionaire’s license in California, where he lives with his wife and four children. He adds that this is an “important consideration given my personal involvement in various restaurant ventures.”

quote:

Wahlberg’s pardon request includes a description of the April 1988 incident during which he attempted to steal two cases of beer from Tranh Lam as he departed a convenience store in Dorchester (where Wahlberg grew up). Wahlberg hit Lam over the head with a large wooden stick, knocking the victim unconscious. As he fled the crime scene, Wahlberg punched a second man, Hoa Trinh, in the face.

He was 17 at the time.

quote:

The decision to grant a pardon to Wahlberg....is in the hands of Deval Patrick, the first African-American governor of Massachusetts

I actually know Mark Wahlberg. I met him while he was filming 2 guns down here. He's a really good guy, and he goes to church everyday. We played basketball a bunch. I can say he is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

I love Marky Mark, but he shouldn't get a pardon. I could understand if he was 17-21 ish. But at 26 years old, no excuse for that.

This doesn't add up. I think he was still a teenager at the time.

ETA: I see this has been touched on.

should not get a pardon at all.

if he doesn't commit the crime, he wouldn't need the pardon.

is that how the saying goes here?

Haha. Yeah, if you've watched any of the Wahlburgers show, you know those boys were outright thug POS growing up.

Definitely shouldn't get a pardon.

He lives a good, fruitful life. Good for him.

Yep at least when he was down here he did. He went to Immaculate Conception everyday ... he would go to church twice on Sundays. Dude is a hardcore catholic.

2014-1988 = 26
If Marky Mark is 43 now..in 1988
43-26=17

See a political run in his future. Sure he is trying to clear his past a little with this.
