Is this a good deal? I was real close to getting it but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm ignorant when it comes to this kind of stuff. Any advice would be appreciated.

I just bought a 51" Samsung plasma for $399, from Best Buy

Tech board will tell you to buy LED, but it depends on what you want out of a TV.

"If you watch a lot of TV during the day, or have a room with lots of windows, LED LCD is probably best. If you watch at night, and want the TV to disappear into the background, plasma is probably best."

I haven't heard this, just some people.

Which TV is the OP talking about? I'm looking at the same one I think and the guys over at the AVS forums have mostly positive things to say.

Im finding very positive reviews. The only issues I'm seeing are from enthusiasts and I believe those to be nit picky. Most of them admit that too.

Loved my 51" Samsung Plasma

Just make sure you don't have direct sunlight hitting it. You won't be able to see shite

I'm a plasma fan fwiw. Get one while you still can

That looks like a good deal. You'd have a hard time getting a 60" LCD with equivalent picture quality in that price range.

This is why I'm probably doing it now. I hate that they are leaving the market.

IIRC, the 60" was the oddball F5300 that used a pentile panel. Most people said it was a non-issue at normal viewing distance. Samsung was also known for "rising blacks" and highly directional buzzing. Those were the unique Samsung issues I recall when I was researching plasmas before buying my Panasonic ST60 last year.

penniless was one issue and like you said can't see that from normal distance. I went to best buy in hopes of seeing it myself but they didn't have it.

I think you can find a better deal.

I bought a 60" Samsung LED smart tv last weekend at walmart for $648. They had all their in store tv's on sale after the black friday deals were gone. I also got a 40" Samsung LED smart tv for $278

I am totally at a loss. Thank you all for the replies. I just simply don't know what to do. I'm looking at the Vizio M series too. I'm trying to find something in the 50-60" range for under $800. I suppose I'll just have to take what I can get. There seems to be drawbacks with whatever I'm looking at for that size in that price range.

The are always draw backs. I don't think you will regret the Samsung plasma.

I love my 51" plasma.

It can run hot but that is only a problem if you are sitting 1 foot away. It does reflect like hell if you have lots of lights around it.

Best viewing angles of any technology today.

I rue the day they stop making them and I plan to buy a backup soon.
