Jefferson Parish judicial candidate Thomas Anzelmo Jr., sued by his political opponent Danyelle Taylor on Tuesday over his television campaign ad in which he sports a judge's black robe, says in court papers Wednesday (Dec. 3) that a judge improperly issued a temporary restraining order barring the TV spot. Anzelmo wants the order dissolved.

Darensburg issued the temporary restraining order Tuesday, shortly after Taylor sued Anzelmo over the TV spot. Taylor asserts that Anzelmo's wearing a judicial robe improperly suggests he is an elected judge. He has never been an elected judge, she says in arguing that the piece violates state elections law.
In the TV spot, Anzelmo is seen wearing a judge's robe and sitting behind what appears to be a courtroom bench before a litigant or a lawyer. His campaign plays up his experience as a magistrate in Harahan's mayor's court. He has been in that appointed position since 2009, he has said.
