I think I'm gonna get away from all in ones because they have been historically bad for me and dont make it to a second set of ink cartridges. Since I can just email any and all docs, I dont need a fax, and I think Im going to get one of those small desktop scanners for document scanning. They seem to be pretty efficient and compact. So now I can get single duty printer but need some direction on something wireless that is reliable.
Maybe this little dude for a document scanner?

I have to second the Brother printer line. I've had the same one for home use for almost 10 years and only replaced toner/drum once. I recommend them to all friends/family. I don't do much color printing so this works fine.
I have an HP AIO for color printing and scanning primarily. I've had issues with it, as it will drop my computer name when trying to "Scan To" a device. I have to go use the HP Scan/Print tool to correct it.

I have used an HP 8600 for over a year with zero issues. I just bought 9 HP 8620s for my locations and they are having zero issues. I use a HP 8630 for my home office.
All printers see light printing but heavy use of scanning and faxing.

What about this one? Its laser auto duplex color printer. Laser printers use toner cartridges correct?

I don't have any experience with color lasers, but for $170, I might take a chance if I really wanted color. That said, I'm sure it will be more expensive to feed with toner than going with a B/W laser, and my understanding is that inkjets still win for color, especially for photo printing.
My B/W Brother printer has been great for several years. It sits in another room, always on, and the wireless has been flawless. Lasers do use toner cartridges, and unlike the several HP and Epson inkjets I've had, they don't clog, and they don't waste it in endless cleaning cycles like inkjets perform automatically in hopes of preventing clogging.

I'm looking hard at this one. It has scanner/copier built in, so no need to purchase a scanner separately.

Which is the more reliable buy? Brother or HP?

I echo this as well - I have a Brother AIO, monochrome laser that has been a solid performer this year. it replaced and aging HP inkjet that really wasn't up to snuff - crapping out after only about 2 years. The AIO prior to that (another HP) was solid, if slow, and lasted longer than I expected.
I don't have a particular need for color, but I have a Samsung CLP-600 in storage that needs a whole set of consumables, including transfer belt - it is 8+ years and solid, but I just balk at paying 70% of the purchase price for consumables at this point for a printer this age.

I have a HP color laser and havent had any issues.
Historically as a former service tech I had way less issues with lasers than inkjets that are essentially throw away

The first HP I got was the 8600 and it's been great. That's all that I need for my home office and honestly my stores too. However, we kept finding the 8620 and 8630 for the same price, if not cheaper, and it was a no brainer.
