Looks like Spinosa's plan to open a drink and food movie theater may have been pre-empted. I can't see Alamo going forward with the investment if this place opens first less than 2 miles away.

The United Artists Theater in Citiplace is on track to be rebranded as a Movie Tavern, documents filed Monday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office show.

The theater and a 6.8-acre site around it were sold to National Retail Properties of Orlando for $8.15 million, according to the court filings. The filings make mention of a Movie Tavern. A spokeswoman for Movie Tavern confirmed that the Citiplace theater will be rebranded and said further details will be released later this week. The theater is located off Corporate Boulevard near College Drive.

Baton Rouge's Citiplace Stadium 11 will undergo a major facelift beginning in January to convert it into a Movie Tavern, according to New Orleans-based Southern Theaters.
The state's second Movie Tavern location is scheduled to open in May. Southern Theaters is the parent company of Movie Tavern.
The Citiplace complex and a 6.8-acre site around it were sold for $8.2 million to National Retail Properties of Orlando, Florida.
Southern Theaters takes over the property in January. The construction work includes installing state-of-the-art sound systems, digital projectors, and 3D; full-service in-theater dining for all 10 screens; luxury recliners with call-button dining service at each seat.

They can rebrand that shitshow all they want, I'm not going there. frick that place.

The Movie Tavern was supposed to be set to come to Juban Crossing in the 2nd phase. This sounds like a setback for the 2nd phase. Was really looking forward to it.

The local residents will run that place into the ground in no time.

The citiplace theater? It's a tear down. Only way to "rebrand" it.

Why would this setback Juban? They are damn near 20 miles apart and certainly not the same clientele.

The higher prices will probably drive that crowd to Mall of La so they can ruin it.

That is what will set these two theaters apart: Whoever can best keep the unwanted element out of it.

FYI, JTS (aka Tommy Spinosa) owns/manages Citiplace.

As far as the facility goes, the Movie Tavern in Covington was abandoned a long time (5 years+) and they made it pretty damn nice. As for the clientele they can't help with that LOL.

Doesn't sound like he owns the theater anymore. But if he does, that adds a whole new weird twist to this story. That guy is literally capable of screwing people over in ways I couldn't think of if I tried.

There's literally nothing redeeming about Juban Crossing. Very little of its initial 2005 concept has come to fruition. What a disappointment and aesthetically lacking development.

I'm interested to hear all your knowledge about what was the original vision in 2005. Tell me more. I want to be educated and enlightened. Share. Please.

It's redeeming to me in that I don't have to drive to the shithole that Baton Rouge is turning out to be.
Aesthetically lacking... shite man how bout they finish some things before you make that call you snooty bastard.

That will definitely revive that place....they also need to raise ticket prices just a bit as well to weed out some of the crappier patrons.
We have a Malco in Memphis that does something like that. It works out really well.

Paul has a tendency to troll threads re: Livingston Parish or Denham, etc. He also does a fairly good job trolling me about the fact that we evidently shared an employer in common about 11 years ago before I got into the mortgage biz.
