Mac was a solid coach, but facts show he was not in Les' class..

A bit long but please hear me out. In short I love Charlie Mac, I knew him a bit and enjoyed watching his team growing up (my first game was in 1965) but for people in threads here to say he is in Les Miles class as a coach is not just in my opinion, but based on facts...untrue.
I have not found "selected stats," but have done research that shows that wins and losses it is not even close. And since so many want to only look at CM's good years (the first 11) I pretty much have stuck to this, and it still shows Les is far better at wins and losses... So, based on LSU media guide and unless noted CM 1962-1972 and Les to date...
Les. vs C Mac (62-72, his best yrs)
Vs top 25 (top 20 for CM there was not top 25). Les- 40-22. CM 12-15
Weeks in top 25/20 not in Les 141-4. CM 70-54
vs ala and ole miss. 13-8 to 5-14-1
Home undefeated seasons 4 to 1
Home win %. Les 62-9. 87% vs. 82% 63-12-3
Finally, some less factual but still interesting part of this conclusion:
Some have also discussed the rent a wins, well while Les has averaged 2.8 (I took out the Oregons, WVU's, TCU's etc) per year, keep in mind that during these 11 years CM got 11 of his vs Tulane (beat them 25 years in a rown until 1973) and mulptile wins vs Pacific and Rice.

Good post. There are some that will never be happy unless we're undefeated and win the natty. Les is "unique", no question, but I like him just the same.

We win a game and the pumpers pour in. We lose and those same pumpers want Les fired.

Okay - Tulane was still a very competitive team - LSU's success under Dietzel and Mac crippled them, permanently. Rice was also good during that era - way better than a rent-a-win - they would be akin to a decent mid-major today.
Mac didn't get a championship as HC, but I give him partial credit for 1958. He also had a NC caliber team in 1969 - certainly that team was as good as Texas or Notre Dame that year (another good reason to hate Ole Miss - yeah, we took a couple of championships from them, but they took them from us, as well - including 1969).
Where Miles is head and shoulders above Mac is recruiting - Mac was an overachiever with the, primarily, homegrown talent he brought in. Miles, on the other hand, has recruited as well as any school during his tenure, possibly excepting Bama (and, really only lost ground the past 3 or 4 years - since, you know).

Ace, respect you as poster, but the facts on Tulane and Rice just support my facts..even more
Tulane from 1962-1972- 36-63, 3 coaches, one bowl, bad team
Rice- 34-64-4, terrible team four different coaches....not rent a wins, but very easy wins 9 of 11 years..
Those are the FACTS..as for your opinion on recruiting, talent, etc
CM inherited a SEC Champ team 10-1 team, Miles a very talented but 8-4 team, also before we had the 3-5 star services Mac got players like Robiske (would have been a 5 star today,) and Bert etc and won only a single SEC title in 17 years..
