Stopped in Wood ville a couple of months ago and got some cokes. Guy behind the register told me the price, so I pulled out my wallet and put down a couple of dollar bills, and counted out correct change, and slid it to the cashier He looked at me as if he were offended, and informed me that they "don't pick up money from the counter.". I was dumbfounded. I picked up the money and handed it to the guy. In retrospect, I wish I'd have said "OK", picked up my money and left. Anybody ever encounter this type of nonsense? WTF?? (And yes, tl/dr and csb..)

Yes!

Once I was getting change and I kind of positioned my hand so that she had to drop the change in it. Just to make it less awkward bc it was a lot of coins. She tells me "IT DONT RUB OFF". It took a second to register bc it was so ridiculous. I told her my grandmother was black (not true) and I did not appreciate her assumptions. She stood there, mouth open, like an idiot. Then she started mumbling an apology.

Is putting money on a counter now considered racist? (I sometimes do this with white clerks as well...)

I actually don't ever put my money on the counter because it's rude as hell. Why does it have to be a race thing?

I only do it when counting out change. Never thought of it as being rude though.

I would have left the money on the counter and walked out. But it probably is easier for them if you hand it to them.

I know you are standing two feet away from me, so let me drop what I have to give directly to you and make you pick it up.

That doesn't sound rude?

I just think it's common courtesy to hand your money directly to the cashier.

Tell the clerk "what gave you the idea I give two fricks about you do or don't do?".

Weird. I usually try to avoid handing money over because it can be kinda awkward depending on the number of bills and change. And then if its dropped in the exchange it just becomes a mess.

Plus I usually lay down my bills as I count them out so that they dont have to double check that Im giving them the right amount.

But I use cards 95% of time so whatever

I'm with you on this one. I always thought it was rude to put money on the counter.

Sounds like whoever refuses to pick up the money is just contributing to the pussification of America. As are you

I would have never thought placing money on a counter would be rude. I haven't used cash in so long though I can't remember what I did that scenario

Also, I've never heard the cashier say it was rude when a broke dude in front of me is counting out change on the countertop.

This.

Another reason not to use cash.

Store clerks will soon be replaced by non racist robots.

Just hold up everyone waiting, until the clerk understands the program
