My father had surgery two weeks before he passed away, I went back home to help my mom take care of him and administer his meds, he was in and out slept most of the time. I was sitting by his bed reading when suddenly he sat up and asked me what happened why he was in a hospital bed. I didn't know what to say. It then dawned on me that at that moment he didn't know he was dying and he was scared. I called for my mom and she quickly told him he was recovering from surgery. That's the last time he was conscious and his his last words to me.
Haunts me to this day.

The last conversation I had with my son was about band practice and set up for a new show they were to play that week. He was dead in less than 8 hours. It was one of the very few times that I didn't tell him I loved him as he left. Forever regret that.
