Alot of posters here would love to have Frank as our HC after Les leaves, but realize he needs to go to a smaller program and prove he can actually run a whole program, not just recruiting.

I have two questions for you Ranters:

1. Is this not the perfect time for him to take a job like this? Les seems to only have a few years left in the tank. If Frank goes to Troy and does well, maybe he takes over when Les leaves. If he goes to Troy and craps the bed, maybe he's not the man for the LSI job.

2. If Frank leaves, who do we bring in to replace him? Ed O will probably be a popular name for recruiting coordinator, but what about RB's?

I'm not sure that LSU would hire a coach from a non-Power 5 after Les leaves.

I can't disagree. He needs a 4-5 year tenure as HC somewhere. Troy will have fairly low expectations and Franks is a solid recruiter (which is maybe all Troy needs to win a few). Difficult to judge success in a place like Troy, though.

I think Juluke - he's almost a direct replacement for Frank - virtually identical resume from an experience standpoint, although Frank has won more recruiting accolades and been at bigger programs.

Is this what your sources tell you red?

And eman, you don't think if Frank does well at Troy that TAF and (hopefully not) Alleva would like the comfort in hiring someone that is familiar with the program, and is also a proven recruiter in Louisiana?

RB coach to head coach? Lulwut? Remember what happen to Larry porter and Memphis? Why leave a high paying position coach to risk being fired if he doesn't make it work.

He's the RC, also.

And, you're aware that every HC had some other job before becoming head coach - although coordinator is, by far, the most common, RC would be your next most applicable job and just as relevant (if not more) as coordinating at college.

Now, NFL, you'd be right - you would have to coordinate or be a college head coach before coaching an NFL team. But they don't recruit, either.

Nobody moves from HC of Troy to HC at LSU. There are 3-4 steps in between.

Kind of like nobody moves from HC of Arkansas State to HC of a major SEC program?
