Was that really "read" option or predetermined runs?

I can't see that Jennings is reading anything. He doesn't appear to be.

Um, yeah we did. A handful of times per game. It just never worked nearly as well because we weren't facing aTm's charmin D.

Honestly, I'm not sure it matters because I'd still take a play that makes the D think over running into a wall of defenders up the middle. The D doesn't know even if it is predetermined. Also, the play happens so fast that you'd have special vision as a fan to be able to tell if he's reading or not reading anything.

i'm glad we won and finally looked decent on offense, but let's not forget this was against the worst D in the SEC.

We've tried to run it all year but Jennings makes the wrong read ALOT and we end up shelving it...
He almost always keeps it when it's called it just so happens that was the right read several times last night...the time he should have given it up he still kept it...

No, we ran it against Wisconsin and had a lot of success on it and he was giving it up to the RB in that one.

Maybe Les told him to fix this shite or take a hike. One thing I do know is Les doesn't call the plays. The OC does.

Wisconsin might have been the only other team besises aTm they had success with, but I don't remember that much success against Wisconsin to tell you the truth. I just remember LSU's line opening up massive holes for RB's to run through because Wisconsin's DLine was depleted. But they have tried to run it against the Auburn's, Bama's, Miss States and others without much success and quickly abandoned it.

Tamus d didn't stay home until late. We abused Garrett because he's a pass rusher. Much like sam and mingo early on, get caught too far up field. Lsu dline showed what to do. Staying home on screens. Tamus d is bad, very bad.

Jennings obviously knows how to read the ends properly

you are wrong here sir. He pre-determines reads. He got lucky in the first half on a few big ones but it was pointed out several times in the second half that he was making the wrong read. he doesnt make reads, its a pre-determined decision. If he made the right reads it woulda worked all year but it didnt.

The truth is that nobody knows, but everybody is acting like they know. Some say the coaches are calling a predetermined read. Last night, Hanagriff and Risher seemed to think that there was a little more reading going on by the QB (but they don't know either).

If the coaches are calling a predetermined read, then Jennings would not be wrong when he takes the ball and it looks as though he should've handed it off. It would be on the coaches for making that predetermined decision. Jennings didn't "get lucky" last night. He just did a good job. Even in the 2nd half, I believe he averaged 6+ ypc on read plays. I saw one play where they said the wrong read was made (but if he isn't reading it and the coaches have made a choice before the play, it isn't that he made the wrong read).

And no fan is able to say if Jennings has made up his mind (if he has a choice) on what he will do with the ball before the play. Either way, however it was actually done last night, it worked as well as it's gonna work.

I wasn't able to watch every offensive snap, but did Jennings ever let the RB take it?

wow, a complete offensive scheme change in 15 weeks using a frosh/soph (kinda like high school) vs the strongest cfb division in history.
i guess it should have been ready the first week?

We haven't run it near that much since probably the season opener against Wisconsin (when it worked well too).

that is true.

I think we started to see the offense we want to run going forward last night.

I know we want to run speed options, zone reads, as well as i form stuff.

Obviously this is only the run game aspect of it, we do want to pass too. I think that is why even though Jennings played well last night, the QB position isn't settled for next year.

In all fairness, this was the pathetic Aggy defense we're talking about here. It wouldn't work as well against a real defense.

Right. The few times we ran that lead play earlier it usually resulted in a 3 yard loss

It was just one game against this particular porous defense, but it was nice to see LSU stick with something that was working. The read option was working and they kept doing it. I don't care about when it did or didn't work before. We've had a tendency to see something work and it disappears for the rest of the game. At least they ran it enough times for it to have an impact on the game. And I'll say this again, as bad as aTm's D is (and they are), all those other SEC QBs who run that same play didn't didn't do as well with it as we did yesterday. So I have to give LSU some credit for that.

Or maybe aTm was sucking even more than usual...

FYI, we have run it all season. i just worked well last night.

I think the jet sweep was the wrinkle that made it effective.

Also running it from the pistol set gave our RBs more of a dive run from it which helped as well
