They used to play each other every year but Lombardi wanted out of it because they got beat too often on Thanksgiving.

Was just about to say, I can't recall a CBS game with two NFC teams. I thought they always rotated between NFC and AFC opponents for Detroit/Dallas so each network could show one

To be fair, Lions haven't played CHI on Thanksgiving in a while. But yeah, when it's the NFL rotation, I like GB/DET.

Hasn't it always been indoors? How long did they play in the Silverdome?

The Silver dome opened in 1974. OJ set the [then] single game rushing record at 273 yards on Thanksgiving in 1975 against Detroit......

I remember it well.....

Detroit playing every Thanksgiving is a terrible tradition anyways. The Cowboys can be the "traditional" game and they should change the other team to one that actually wins. Thanksgiving in Lambeau would obviously be awesome.

I'm confused. It's not like they play each other every season on Thanksgiving.

I'm pretty sure you just try to find shite to bitch about, even if it's wrong.

Dude. Dallas-Philly and SEA-SF are games with huge implications.

Yes, GB-Detroit would have been better, but today still has a great lineup of football.

What's weird is that the Vikings are a divisional opponent for the Lions, but have played a total of 6 Thanksgiving games-- only 3 have come against the Lions.

For contrast, the Bears are the next fewest in the NFC North/Central in appearances, with 31.

No idea why that is.
