In a Silver City, Nevada, cemetery:
Here lays Butch,
We planted him raw.
He was quick on the trigger,
But slow on the draw.

in a Uniontown, Pennsylvania, cemetery:
Here lies the body
of Jonathan Blake
Stepped on the gas
Instead of the brake.

Ribbesford, England:
Anna Wallace
The children of Israel wanted bread
And the Lord sent them manna,
Old clerk Wallace wanted a wife,
And the Devil sent him Anna.

On the grave of Ezekial Aikle in the East Dalhousie Cemetery, Nova Scotia:
Here lies
Ezekial Aikle
Age 102
The Good
Die Young.

On Margaret Daniels's grave at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia:
She always said her feet were killing her
but nobody believed her.

Harry Edsel Smith of Albany, New York:
Born 1903--Died 1942
Looked up the elevator shaft to see if
the car was on the way down. It was.

Someone in Stowe, Vermont:
I was somebody.
Who, is no business
Of yours.

Fun fact that only Kafka may care about. On the courthouse in Silver City lady justice is not blindfolded.

She was a long way away and I was 12. Pretty sure the top was on though.

Remember Samuel Clemens had an office there though, also the town whore was buried in the Firefighter's cemetary.

On the list of all time historical badassery, not many can even challenge Sulla. He forbade young Julius Caesar to ride a horse and for ten years or more Caesar rode a mule. Even when Sulla was a thousand miles away, old and sick, still Caesar rode the mule.

I was always a big fan of Duane Allman's.

"I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can. I will take love wherever I find it, and offer it to anyone who will take it...seek knowledge from those wiser, and teach those who wish to learn from me."

There is a grave near my house from the early 1800's. It says

As you are now I once was, as I am now you one day will be, repent your sins.

Kind of weird standing over that grave and reading it.

Saw this one at Boot Hill.

Here lies Less Moore
Shot dead with a .44
No Less no more.

This wasn't actually used, but H.L. Mencken suggested the following for his own epitaph:

If, after I depart this vale, you ever remember me and have thought to please my ghost, forgive some sinner and wink your eye at some homely girl.
