If she isn't the most overrated female out there, she has to be close to the top.

OK, I'm asinine, but IMO, wining a Karaoke contest and being proclaimed talented and famous overnight doesn't mean you are, sort of like the emporer's new clothes syndrome, if everyone says they're talented, they must be

Watch this and tell me that CU isn't talented: How Great Thou Art (at the CMAs)

I'm not sure I could name a single CU song, but that chick can absolutely sing her arse off.

Nice padded bra.

She's still fine, though.

She looks like a deer or an impala.

Carrie Underwood is terribly overrated too.

Counterfeits reduce the value of the real thing. I cannot trust the singing talent of anyone who came to prominence in the post-Auto Tune world. There were always tricks, double tracking, extra takes, vocal effects, special rooms, etc., to bring someone up to speed for a record. They could always pantomime live, but that was tougher back in the day without the sophisticated computerized equipment they have today. Ironically, as talent has actually collapsed - they fake it on the recording (with Auto-tune) and often lip synch it "live" - not even bothering with trying to sing live, even with auto tune assistance.

So, I don't care if it was American Idol, or some other Karaoke event, Carrie Underwood may be able to "sing her arse off" - but it is impossible to judge with all the tools available and proven counterfeits in the market.

So you're choosing to ignore the live performance I posted and instead are chalking up how great she sounds to "not being able to be trusted because autotune and because lip syncing technology is better now"? And that since those things exist now, that means that there aren't any talented people anymore?

You're either a complete idiot, or you're trolling. And something tells me it's a little bit of both.

She's gorgeous, and there's really not much debating it. has nothing to do with her music.

This is ridiculous. She didn't have any of those tools on Idol, and she sounded amazing back then.

She didn't have those tools when she sang live at Superfest, and her voice was amazing then.

You sound like peej talking about how no one from this generation of athletes could possibly be the GOAT since they are young.

I have to agree with Major Midnight, he's not an idiot or trolling, it's probably that you're too young to have ever witnessed any true, natural talent.

I'm plenty old enough to have experienced the people he's mentioned. And age is irrelevant anyway, since anybody can go back and listen to old shite.

And trust me, you can put me square in the middle of the "old music beats the shite out of new music" camp. But just because I believe that to be true doesn't mean I am ignorant and blind to the fact that there are still lots of talented people in the music biz today. And TS and CU easily fall into that category.

Because autotune is also available live. And I can almost guarantee she uses it, even if she's a great singer.

nd that since those things exist now, that means that there aren't any talented people anymore?

I didn't say that. I said (or should have made clear) that it is tough/impossible to discern.

See, I think Gaga is talented - most of it isn't my cup of tea, it is overproduced and her way, way, way overblown image gets in the way of actually seeing that. And I could be fooled.

(I never said in this thread that CU couldn't sing - I even said, she could probably have been a Honkette or whatnot in the 70s - back when singing artists absolutely had to have talent because looks were irrelevant - Grand Funk and Dr. Hook, for example, were so ugly, one would have to avert one's eyes.)
