It was a pretty big let down.

It was long and rather boring; but it was true to real life story... they almost realized that they were going to be running very long and wrapped up the last 25% of the story in about 20 minutes. I don't know what I was expecting. I was EXTREMELY excited to see it as I love nearly EVERYTHING that Focus puts out.

It was accurate to what happened in his life from what I know about Hawking, but it wasn't about his work so much as it was about his personal life.

His books and theories were an afterthought. The only redeeming factor was how well Eddie Redmayne portrayed Hawking. He did 'overact' his struggles with speech at some points. (read: almost unintelligible in some instances.)

I would, as a pretty big movie buff, suggest that you wait for DVD.

Hmmm. . . Trailer looks great IMO. I'll be disappointed if the movie isn't at least decent.

Good analogy.. But where BM actually went into his work, and less about his life, that's where ToE comes in.

I don't know how to describe it... like I said in the OP; It's almost like it was an afterthought

*minor spoiler alert*

There was literally a *sentence* about his 'Brief History'... again, an afterthought.

We enjoyed it immensely and think Eddie Redmayne deserves an Oscar. If it had been more about the science it would have put 99% of movie goers to sleep. IMHO.

This just had the feel of rushed effort to put another "same class" movie out there before the good one comes out (Volcano/Dante's Peak; Armageddon/the other one with Morgan Freeman and that ugly chick; etc..)

Imitation Game is where it's gonna be at.

Damn, I was going to watch this tonight. Watched Still Alice thanks to the Koreans, good movie. Juliane Moore might very well win the Oscar.

I just got back. The performances were definitely superb. Jones and Redmayne drove the movie. The story itself isn't bad (it does drag a little), but it's just a bit disappointing. It's sad to see a biopic about an absolute genius and focus so little on his work.

However, it was worth seeing. Both leads should get nominated, but the movie as a whole was just good, not great IMO. That said...
