Ordered online from Sportsmans outdoor super store

LINK

LINK to mail in rebate

The price for my gun was $339. After the $50 rebate, it's only $289. That's a hard deal to beat for a rifle & scope ready to hunt.

One side note, it came bore sighted. It was close, but not dead on at 100 yards. The 1st thing i did was tighten the scope mounts & rings before i shot it so that may have knocked it off a little. After that i put a few rounds through it & got it sighted in @ 100 yards. it's very light & it doesn't kick much at all. I'm shooting some 150 gr federal power shok for pigs...

You people talk about bore sighting like it is some kind of magic.

If anything, it is a poorer form of sighting a rifle in because it doesn't take in to effect the arc of the projectile. Just pick a distance and sight it in.

It helps get the shots on paper to be able to dial it in after putting the scope on.

I wasn't saying my boresighted scope was better. I just mentioned it because somehow I got lucky that mine was dead on at 100 out of the box 9 years ago, and has never moved in that time. Pretty sweet.

Agreed.

Ok, I guess I'll actually add something to this thread instead of being a dick.

My first rifle (besides a .22) was a Savage 110 combo that I got for Christmas when I was either 14 or 15 in either '94 or '95. For reference, full combo, 30-06 with scope was $200 from walmart. I still love the gun, a few years ago I replaced the stock with a Hogue replacement. Took alot of the kick out of the gun, better feel overall.

The truth is that guns were practically perfected about 100 years ago (see 1911). At this point, if you have a gun that isn't grouping, it is way more likely to be an ammo issue.

I didn't know bullets had an Arc... Bore sighting is always a good point to start.

I ended up picking up the Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP Rifle with Scope Combofrom Bass Pro. I wanted a 270, but they didn't have any in stock so I ended up getting a 30-06. I got a pretty good deal at Bass Pro. The rifle was already marked down $35. I signed up for a Bass Pro credit card and got an additional 10% off and a $25 instant rebate. I also get the $75 rebate from Savage. In total, I saved $182 on this purchase after all the discounts and rebates. I can't wait to take it out to the range.

Match that with some corelocts and some practice and you will have a life long killing machine.

ZX,
Congratulations! You got a good gun. Nothing against the other guns mentioned earlier, but the Savage bolt action is a VERY solid, albeit no frills, gun. Accuracy wise, I'll match my Savage bolt actions rifles (and handguns) against any other factory bolt action.

Bull shite, if you have a gun that isn't grouping it's not gonna be ammo. It's the shooter. 98% of the time it's going to be improper technique.
