the SEC sucks so much
Has the big10 had 3 different teams win?
Big 12?
Pac12?
Forget total number of titles.....where's the diversity amongst these other conferences? I guess these other "bball" conferences are simply middle heavy

Lack of fanfare causing the schools to not put as much emphasis on the sport ?
I don't know if this is the real reason, but it is for me.
I just don't follow college basketball anymore. It's boring, diluted, and not the interesting product it used to be (or seems like it used to be).
I do watch LSU basketball games that are televised, but havent seen then play in person in 15 years. I sometimes go to UNO and Tulane games too, but really don't keep up with either program, especially since 2005.
It seems like college basketball is on a HUGE downward spiral in interest in the South, everywhere except Kentucky and Florida, the 2 schools that have had some success.
Plus, as soon as football ends, most of us are looking forward to the college baseball season. I already am.

Don't forget North Carolina. It's not an SEC state, but college basketball is huge there.

It depends if you want to arbitrarily go back 20 years or 27 years.
If 27, yes.

The SEC is about to have two straight years of having only 3 tournament bids. Have fun with being the 3rd best mid major conference.

Why does the SEC suck in basketball?
It doesn't suck that bad. The recent cycle hasn't be great, but in the early 2000s the SEC was considered the best top-to-bottom conference in the country.
Perception =/= reality. If the narrative exists, people take it as fact without actually look a bit deeper.

WTF? The Big East and the ACC were miles better.

It's a good question and I can tell you that I have witnessed a noticeable drop in Mizzou basketball fan interest since our move to the SEC. It's been the exact opposite effect from the positive one the SEC has had on our football program.
For a conference with so much money, such rabid fanbases, and great talent pools to recruit from - it doesn't make a lot of sense. The SEC should be very good at basketball.
The only rationale I can come up with is that football dominates the SEC so much that it has marginalized everything else and stripped resources and fans away from basketball (except at Kentucky and kinda Florida).

Hard to put the same amount of resources into 2 different sports. In the SEC it's football for most schools.

I was just basing it off the fact that no conference had more NCAAT bids than the SEC in 3 tournaments from 2000-2002.

If you build it(FANFARE), they will come(Players and HCs)!
The south has plenty of quality ballers, although I generally do believe that the Seaboard and MW kids have slightly better fundamentals and Hoops IQ at 18ish.
But, where in the deep south sans UK do you see diehard fanbases(except when with a loaded winner)?
Iowa State fills Hilton,etc..even with a mediocre product. As do some other northern second-tier programs. SEC Football casts a long shadow, as even Signing Day and Spring Practice steal some thunder.

No one has said anything negative about UK or UF, it's the rest of the conference

So you're equating the streaky, getting hot flair of the tournament to the overall strength of the conference? get of out of here. Anyone with eyeballs can see that the SEC overall in the last decade has been 'meh'. Regardless of the championships won or tourney performance.

Well that is just retarded, UF's success speaks for itself

Nope, you're just outing yourself as a retard

Why don't these other conferences have quality enough teams to be able to put themselves in a position to get "streaky", or a "hot flair", when it matters most?
Guess the Big10, Big12, & Pac12 are all just mediocre? Only good during the regular season? Choke artists in crunch time?
What is it?

A lot of people would probably argue that the NCAA tourney isn't exactly the greatest method of determining the actual best team in the country. It is obviously what every team strives to win but when measuring conference strength I think the regular season really holds more merit and not necessarily NCAAT results.
