What is stopping the next Presidential candidates from running on platforms of laws they will and will not enforce?

Lets say a President wants the Fair Tax or a Flat Tax. He could run on saying he will not enforce laws on paying taxes until Congress passes a tax law he likes.

I believe that's what all the commotion boils down too. Its not this singular EO that's the issue but rather the expansion of executive power going forward.

Yes. No longer are we a nation of stable laws, but of the whims of williful and inconsistent men. And it has us on the road to tyranny.

Pres. Obama Fumbles Easy Question on Precedent
quote:

Stephanopolous asked: “How do you respond to the argument, a future president comes in and wants lower taxes. Doesn’t happen. Congress won’t do it; so he says ‘I’m not going to prosecute those who don’t pay capital gains tax.’”

“The truth of the matter is George,” said the President, haltingly, “The reason that we, have to do.. uhm prosecutorial discretion in immigration, is that we know, that we – are not even close to being able to deal with the folks who have been here a long time…” Obama then pivoted to immigration talking points, without addressing the original question.

“The vast majority of folks understand that they need to pay taxes, and when we conduct an audit, for example, we are selecting those folks who are most likely to be cheating,” said Obama. “We’re not going after millions and millions of people who everybody knows are here and were taking advantage of low wages as they’re mowing lawns or cleaning out bedpans, and looking the other way.”

“So you don’t think it’d be legitimate for a future president to make that argument?” Stephanopoulos said.

Obama: “With respect to taxes? Absolutely not.”

He would be wrong based on his EO.

This, and the hypocrisy of doing it when he did, instead of when he had both houses, and after getting blasted in the midterms...Setting precedent is one thing, but doing it for pure Political games is just bullshite douchery IMO.

Exactly and anyone who is in favor of this EO had better be prepared to back up and take it up the arse when the winds change and another party gets the white house. This is not the way to make change and leads us all down a very dark road.

I honestly hope the GOP plays ball with this. I would most certainly do the same think Obama is doing if I were a GOP President.
