It's not like this is some new technology that is not proven. I mean we literally have hundreds, if not thousands, of pipelines crisscrossing this country. I guess I am just having trouble understanding why this certain pipeline is such a hot button issue. Is this strictly political?

It's just an opportunity for the environmentalists to whine and fight against the oil companies.

Because most pipelines don't require presidential approval. This has given all the greenies a lifetime opportunity to complain about oil. That's part of it.

Another part it some NIMBYs.

The other part is money.

The oil is going to get from Canada to the south. Will it be via pipeline, which will make the pipelines wealthy? Or will it be via railroad, which will make the railroad owners such as Buffett wealthy?

It would compete with railroads that belong to big doners.

Are the owners of TRP big Republican donors? Or if it was easy as donations why didn't TRP make big dem donations in 2008-2012?

Right. It's old technology that's been proven to leak

It's far safer and less accident prone than the rail road they are using now.

If people would look at a map of how many pipelines criss cross this country they'd be shocked.

Can you pro proof of thousands of oil pipelines crossing the USA? I didn't know there were that many. I'm against it because its ugly and nasty and most likely will not lower fuel prices. There's 3500 oil rigs in the gulf of Mexico.

That's true, but not as solid an argument as you imagine.

What do you mean by "ugly and nasty"? I line you will never see and may leak inconsequential amounts of oil a handful of times over 100s years v rail delivery which has proven to be more "nasty". There is no legit reason to block the line not even imagined enviro reasons. The oil is going to move south so it's really a pick your poison choice.

Get out of whatever town your in and travel the beautiful USA. It is unmatched in natural beauty. While I agree its important to tame the earth and take advantage of natural resources, building a steel pipeline across the country that will have no effect in fuel prices or the enhancement of my life is questionable and most likely going to profit only big oil execs.
