My lab mix fricked my house up. Ate the siding off of the house, patio furniture, and the patio furniture covers. The other big dog ate the drywall in the dog lair. That's why they get kenneled now. I go home for lunch 99% of the time. We try to minimize kennel time to 4'ish hours besides sleeping.

My old lab used to do the same shite. He once locked himself in the utility room, pissed all over getting his paws wet, and started scratching at the drywall. He got the drywall wet and made a hole to get out. I've never seen anything like it

What the hell is the point of having a dog then?

but I think it's a shame to make a dog (anything other than lap dogs) stay indoors 24/7 or to lock a dog in a crate while you're at work for 8 hours.

This! I don't know how someone can say they are an animal lover or a dog person and then turn around and leave the dog in a crate for hours upon hours.

My parents have an outdoor dog, but he has slept inside plenty of times on nights that are too cold.

They just bought him one of these:

...which heats to the animal's body temp (doesn't get hot-hot).

His pen is built onto the side of dad's shop (with a roof) and essentially has "walls" so he isn't really out in the elements.

My dog has a dog door in the back door. Comes in when he wants goes out when he wants. Stays out about 65% of the time.

Ours are in and out via dog door.

Mine are outside 100% of their lives.

They don't mind. Dogs are tough. They've lived outside forever.

If you put forth the effort to keep pets and the house clean it won't stink. It does take work bit it is more than worth it to keep my fur babies nearby. Two of my dogs don't shed.

Dog's are fine outside as long as you have proper shelter, food, and fresh water.

So you leave them outside when it gets below freezing?

It's called nose-blind. People who don't like how my house smells can stay away.

We have a lab and a beagle. They stay outside while we're at work during the day (unless it's extremely hot/cold or storming) but they definitely want to be with us whenever we're home. They sit at the back door and howl if we don't let them in. We usually leave the back door open when we're home so they can go out if they need to.

yeh I think people who say there dogs "would rather be outside" are tryint to convince themselves. Sure dogs love to play outside and shouldnt be cooped up all day. But you are fooling yourself if you think they like being alone in the yard when you are at home inside. And before the "my dog wont even come inside if i invite him", that is because he is used to outside and the arse beating he gets when he tried to run in when he was a puppy I have zero problem whatsoever though with dogs being outside dogs

I can believe it. A lot of times they want to be where you are.

If you're home you can let them in and out whenever they want.

Mhmm.

Fill their houses with hay. They're fine.

One day I let them out when it was 28* and they ran and jumped in the pond. They love it.

Yep. You would swear they evolved with central air and heat.

I can't stand dogs in the house.

They're meant to be outside. They stink, they shed, and they need to be doing outside things.

I would never allow my dogs outside in the elements. It's hot/cold out there, bugs and such,
