One of the real problems with Miles' offensive system is it requires the offense to maintain 12-15 play drives going 4-6 yards at a time. In College there simply isn't enough practice time with a revolving door of players coming in for 2-3 years and taking at least 1 year to get somewhat competent to be able to depend on for long sustained drives.

all it takes is one holding penalty, one sack, one drop on 3rd and 4, one missed assignment to derail the drive. In college you need more big plays. You need an offense that gets your best players the ball in space and you need some home run threats.

Find the QB that can make those plays happen.

They need more big plays to happen. You are right.

But Jennings has thrown the ball deep a lot this season going for the big play.

running a 9 route is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about plays designed to get more than 8 yards.

having a few players who have speed instead of 4 RBs that are exactly the same guy—big and lumbering

Disagree. Need something resembling a short to intermediate passing game. We've played like shite offensively this season in several games where the ability to throw a 6 to 12 yard slant would have changed the entire complexion of the game.

We have the kid James who ran the sweep earlier in the season, but he is been MIA since conference play started. Tiger Ryno, 10-12 play drives are begging for mistakes to happen, so I understand your point. Maybe next season, we'll see Harris at QB, and open the offense a bit more. Too much talent standing on the sideline.

The problem is there is no QB to make the machine go. Everything else is just fine. Either give up on the pro style offense, get a kid that can work under center, or adapt the offense to the constant shotgun that kids use in HS.

It's Les' fault we know that.

Big plays would help the offense, yes.

Breaking news!

no shite.

i like the content of your post, though. it really is a shame that we'll have a solid offensive series where we march up the field bit-by-bit, only to be derailed by a single flag, sack, drop on 3rd and 4, etc.

maybe i'll be laughed out of the rant for this, but i think our biggest problem (at this point) is special teams/field position. with exceptions, of course, we've received a lot of punts deep on our half and we've given the other teams pretty good field position on a lot of punts this year. i was really surprised when i saw the stat that keehn had the second highest punt average in the SEC because that phase of the game has seemed dismal to me this year. in our great years, like 2011, we punted and kicked really well.

Most of the pro-style QBs are from Cali or Arizona...and they ain't coming to LSU. QBs coming out of HS can't read a defense and do the shite our staff is asking from the position. It's apparent we don't do anything to help our QBs because every game we play looks the same on offense. If we play a weak secondary, we pound the ball. If we play a strong defensive front, we pound the ball. Shite is beyond stupid that there never seems to be a team specific game plan.

Need a QB that hasn't made his mind up pre-snap
