The more I think about, Breaking Bad is really a Western.

And a good one at that. I was rewatching it this weekend, and I kept thinking Sergio Leone could have written this series. I'd really like to see Vince Gilligan take on a true traditional western just for fun.

Vince Gilligan himself has said that he considers it a western and that it was his intention to make it in that form. I love that idea because a great western is one of my favorite things to watch. It also made me happy that he exposed some people to the Marty Robbins album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, one of my favorite albums ever.

Isn't almost everything a Western?
When you boil it down to nuts/bolts story?

I agree and I see what you both are saying but as I'm typing I'm listening to Tommy James sing Crystal Blue Persuasion.

Yes - I see it - the attention and importance of the vehicles as parallels to horses - the classic archetypes - it is literally in a classic western setting - and particularly when they were holed up in various places - the cinematography of the desert scenes.
Perhaps not a straight western in modern timesg (such as No Country) but definitely an homage.

Not really - most comedies aren't western, even most action pictures (although some are - Predator - literally has an Indian, Aliens, etc.), but there are various things that make you think Western - open desert scenes, standoffs at gunpoint, sieges - all those are signs.
I'm not 100% on board with the OP's theory, but I definitely see the elements there.
