Teacher to student: If you don't support gay marriage, drop my class

Fox News Report
“We had a discussion on all of them – except gay rights,” the student told me. “She erased that line from the board and said, ‘We all agree on this.’”
Well, as it so happened – the student did not agree with instructor Abbate.
So after class he approached the instructor and told her he thought they should have discussed the issue of gay rights. He also recorded their conversation -- without her permission.
“Are you saying if I don’t agree with gays not being allowed to get married that I’m homophobic?” the student asked.
“I’m saying it would come off as a homophobic comment in this class,” the teacher replied.

Is WI a one or two party state with regards to recorded conversations?

One:
quote:
Wisconsin – If the person who records the wire, electronic, or oral communication is a party to the conversation or has obtained prior consent from one party, he may lawfully record the communications. Consent is not required for the taping of a non-electronic communication uttered by a person who does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in that communication.

that is a bs news story.
the worst you can do is criticize this teacher for not wanting to deal with a real issue, but she didn't say if you don't support gay marriage you can drop my class.
She said if you don't like how she is running the class you can drop it.
The class can be a place for the free exchange of idea, but it is also a place of learning, and the instructor has the power to control the conversation and curriculum.
IF this student was discussing the matter in a public setting it is a different story.

If you want to maintain credibility in political discussions I would suggest to not use stories from Todd Starnes.

How about not using opinion pieces as fact? Good lord. How can you even take this crap seriously? First line:
Students who oppose gay marriage are homophobic, according to an audio recording of a Marquette University instructor
Followed by:
“Are you saying if I don’t agree with gays not being allowed to get married that I’m homophobic?” the student asked.
“I’m saying it would come off as a homophobic comment in this class,” the teacher replied.
The intellectual dishonesty here is ridiculous.

Show your teeth a little more. That teacher is an employee of the state, she does not not reserve the right to tell people what they should believe.
Continue on with your male privilege.

With the exception of religion. If the teacher wants to let the students know how great Jesus is, then that's offensive.
But setting the homophobes straight on gay marriage is ok.
That sounds reasonable and not hypocritical at all.

There should be outrage over it, but there won't be. Wrong side of the issue.

Generally, open minded people don't practice censorship.

quote:Interesting perspective regarding an ethics class taught at a Catholic University insofar as the instructors premise "we all agree on this” was indisputably wrong.
The class can be a place for the free exchange of idea, but it is also a place of learning, and the instructor has the power to control the conversation and curriculum.
Her premise was not debatable.
It was flatly false.
In fact, considering Catholic dogma, it was an outright lie.
For an instructor not to be called out by the school when she lies is inexcusable.

Even if one accepts the concept that the student is homophobic, something tells me that this professor wouldn't stop another student for lambasting Christianity. Or, conservatism. Or a variety of other subjects. So, her assertion that some student in the class might be gay and therefore, offended falls flat.
This is but another example of how liberals want certain ideas squashed entirely in the name of "offense" but then, will happily offend the frick out of anyone they don't like.

No one can deny libs are the most tolerant people around when it comes to respecting the opposing beliefs of others.
That is when they're not trying to remove people from the airwaves or their jobs for having a dissenting POV.
