Has anyone dropped wired internet altogether and had long-term success tethering to Roku and similar devices?

I have a 40gig Verizon plan (they ditched my unlimited, but I took advantage of the double data special and it actually ended up being a good deal because of the increased Edge discount with high-volume data plans).

Anyway, I'm not worried about going over 40gigs, as I watch less than a show/movie/game a day on average. And the streaming was fine when I tested it, but I'm curious about people's experience getting off the cable/dsl/uverse teat completely. $68/mo in my pocket is a few extra beers for gamedays (sorely needed this FB season).

TIA.

I watched a 42 minute episode of House MD on Netflix on my phone in 1080p and it used a little less than 400mb.
