It seems to be a hot/in-demand field currently. But what are the realities of locally and regionally for this field of study/expertise in terms of job opportunities?
I have a meeting set up next month with the folks who run the program out at SLU to find out some more information (I'm strongly considering finishing my degree there in order to get a major in this field of study), but I really want to find out from folks elsewhere about the field and how much opportunity there is locally in the BR-Metro area (and the 10/12 corridor in general) for folks who have specialized skills in this area.
Anyone here with real world experience who can give me a little more info or details?

Lots of opportunities. I recently left the field as sales is way more lucrative and fun to me. Most of the roles are procurement based. If you are serious about it get APICS certified.

It's def. a good field. Of course the companies in south La don't take the idea of the whole concept and the cost savings, training, etc as serious as needed.
The refineries and plants pay pretty damn good, especially if you are on the contracts side of things.
ISM has a certification that is pretty well respected. I know the SLU program is pretty new, but I think it would still be a pretty good degree to get if you need to stay in this area for your schooling.

I'm in supply chain for a refinery in LC. Would be glad to answer any questions via email.
