Ive only read the op, but public enemy at tier 4 is crimanally low. Otherwise, pretty nice list.

Would have J Cole tier 4. The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights are two GREAT projects.

Would put Big KRIT in 5 at least.

Blu and Fashawn are my two underground favorites that I would list.

Petition for Brother Ali in Tier 2

Also would move KRIT up a tier

For some (like me) KRS is Tier 1

Killer Mike on Tier 3

Updated all except for KRS. It's very borderline Tier 1-2

No. You don't get to count the results of the members in other endeavors, and Wu-Tang just doesn't have a strong enough catalog.

Rakim was influential to other rappers, but he didn't make good enough music to be in tier 1. I think more than 5% of the population would need to be familiar with an artist before we can talk tier 1.

I like them quite a bit, but no.

Some of the ones you suggested could be up for debate but I disagree that Eminem, Kanye, and The Roots can be in the same discussion as the rest that you listed. Especially not without a reason why.

Lol @ Wu not having a strong enough catalog

I tend to agree a bit on Rakim and actually think between Rakim and KRS-One that KRS was more influential to the hip hop culture movement and he lectures and teaches on it across the country now.

Also I would add 8ball & MJG to tier 2

If you've ever listened to Gangstarr Systems you'd probably agree with their input

Panic consider that Rakim, Gangstarr, Tribe & Nas, he'll even GFK all were heavily influenced by Kris

When he released "The bridge is over" it was the 1st borderline album not appealing to the masses and influencing a whole culture of underground hip hop culture.

He made it ok and even cool to talk about an ego in raps

He also had a major influence on Biggie as well

He's tier 1 for me

Also would like to add Atmosphere who's catalog screams tier 2, but more recently they've fallen off, not producing as much work, they are borderline for me

Vakill to tier 4, fairly newer not a deep enough catalog, he's trending up

Do or Die to tier 2, very influential to almost every Chi-town rapper like Kanye, Common, and Twista

Pharoah Monche to tier 3 (borderline 2, can rap circles around most just not a large enough catalog)

Blackalicious and Jurassic 5 to tier 3

*updated*

I bumped KRS-One based on their influence alone. In a personal tiering they would probably still be Tier 2 but you make a point about if Rakim is tier 1 , KRS really should be tier 1 as well.

Can't believe I forgot them in OP
