The Jazzfest lineup rumors thread got me thinking. Will Jazzfest actually improve this year? Will the lineup actually progress or return to the glory days of the 80s and early 90s? I’ve come to the same conclusion every year: Jazzfest is always overhyped. For the past ten years, they’ve been getting really shitty headliners. It’s Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Cee Lo Green or some crap like that every year. The only good acts are the local tents (blues, jazz, fais do do) and why pay $75 to go see good, local acts that you can see for $5 every week? It’s really only become a place for frat boys, dads wearing ray bans/Hawaiian shirts/fedoras and Yankees to go and try to look cool like we’re still living in the 70s. I think Santana/ Phish / Eric Clapton this year was the catalyst of the decline.. those were some of the worst festival sets I’ve seen during my lifetime. On top of the ”has-been” stacked lineup, the fairgrounds is a piece of shite. Literally. I don’t understand how anyone could enjoy going to an overcrowded festival where there is horse shite everywhere. The place is ugly as sin (even for a horse racing track) and gives visitors a poor representation of the city. When I think jazzfest, I think of spring in city park, not spending my whole weekend drinking over-priced beer in a horse track that smells like shite. It’s always hot as frick, dusty, muddy, and the sound is always terrible. The soundsystem is about 10 years past due for an upgrade. For a city with such a unique amount of music talent, New Orleans fricking sucks. They don’t even have a real outdoor venue or amphitheater. At least Baton Rouge has an amphitheater. Hopefully, Jazzfest can get their shite together this year, but I’m really not feeling too optimistic about it.

Look for Oysterhead at the Saenger late night for their 15th anniversary show. Claypool will bring out the weird Trey.

Why? I do agree it should be moved there though.

I think if Jazzfest would just stray away from the stupid Christina Aguleria and Maroon 5 bullshite, it would help. None of that has to do with Jazz. It makes Jazzfest look like some teeny bopper festival that's open for business to anyone. It's a money hungry corporate shitshow

Adam Levine has headlined Jazzfest fest...think about that for a minute

because the fairgrounds are bad. Worst place for a music festival that I've ever seen. It's almost depressing.

yup

Maybe you shouldn't go anymore since you have such a shitty attitude. I can't imagine you being pleased no matter what. Jazz fest will be fine without you.

no

They have found a marketable and financially successful mix of vanilla Dad Rock and mainstream pop and they're going to stick with it for a long, long time

If they could make it less hot, that would be good, maybe weekend after Easter . Better flow too, I got in an argument with a girl because she wouldn't move from the track everyone was walking on. It was like bourbon street.

This. All of this.

I go jazzfest as much as possible, mostly because I enjoy festivals and it's so easy for me to get there. But I will never go on a day where I have to see one of those clown acts listed above or someone similar.

Jazzfest will never be the same...It's in a total decline. That Clapton set was so shitty. Here you have a legend on the stage, and your sound production and set up totally just makes the set look like a clown show. Not to mention that Clapton is probably 6 times older than some of the people there ready to watch fricking Cee Lo or some other countfgt from the Voice.

That should be next years tagline "Jazzfest: Come see some CntFgts"

Jazz fest has officially gotten too big for the fair grounds. The area is just too small for the amount of people they let through.

Eta: Obviously I agree with everything you said

Do you think Phish hurt or helped Jazzfest last year?
